The apartment was empty when I got back up.
Jayden's leather jacket was gone from the back of the chair where he'd thrown it when we'd arrived and his car keys were also gone. I was so confused as to what had gone wrong, but it was clear that Jayden wasn't going to tell me. As far as I'd been concerned, there'd been nothing wrong with the kiss. Then again, I could've been biased.
I sat in front of the television for a little while, but nothing could keep me occupied for more then ten minutes. I cleaned his kitchen, whipping away imaginary spots of dirt off his counter top, re-arranging his cutlery, washing the already clean dishes and then un-packing and re-packing the dishwasher. After about two hours, it became highly clear that Jayden wouldn't be walking through the door any time soon. I glanced up at the clock and let out a sigh when I saw the time. 9:30 pm.
I wondered into Jayden's bedroom, picking up my suitcase which I'd dumped on his bed and dragged it out into the hallway. Then I grabbed my phone from the counter where it was charging and clicked on the first contact I could think of. The cabs in my neighbour hood were dodgey enough during the day time. I didn't even want to think about getting in one at this time of night, even if it was still early.
The phone rang three times before he picked up, his voice sounding tired and croaky down the line.
"Miss Rose?" Straight away I felt guilty. Maybe I should have braved the cabs.
"Danny." I said. "Look, I know it's late and I'm really sorry, but I really need a favour."
"Of course Miss Rose." Danny replied and I could hear him getting up. "What do you need?"
"I need you to pick me up." I said. "I'm at Jayden's." There was a muffled curse on the other end of the line and then the sound of a door closing.
"If you don't mind me asking Miss Rose." Said Danny, "but if you're at Jayden's, why don't you just get him to drive you home." I rubbed a hand over my face.
"We had an argument." I said. "And he stormed out and I don't really want to be here when he gets back. Danny I'm really sorry, but I wouldn't ask you if there wasn't another option." I heard the sound of a car start.
"It's quite alright Miss Rose." Danny assured me. "I'm hanging up now. I'll meet you out the front in twenty okay?"
"Okay." I said. "Seriously Danny. Thank you." I heard him chuckle softly.
"Anytime Miss Rose, anytime."
I left a note for Jayden or Jack (whoever showed up first) with the ladies at the front desk and then headed out onto the street, just as Danny pulled up in the limo. Thankfully there were no paps around at this time of night, so I hopped in the back without having to worry about getting my face on the front cover of Hello! magazine. Danny smiled at me in the revision mirror.
"Home Miss Rose?" He asked. I smiled back.
"Yes please." I said. He nodded at me and pulled out of the parking space and back onto the road. I dug around in my bag for my earphones and then I leant my head against the window, trying to figure out what the hell went wrong.
