Jayden's POV

"What the hell was that?" Jack fumed.

I tipped my head back until it rested against the back of the office sofa, staring up at the ceiling. Jack paced in front of me, the sounds of his feet echoing through the room.

"Would you quit pacing?" I asked, pinching the bridge of my nose. "You're giving me a head ache."

"Oh I'm giving you a head ache?" Jack whirled around to face me. "I'm giving you a head ache?" I glanced in his direction through squinted eye lids.

"Yes." I said. "You are." Jack scoffed.

"Well if I'm giving you a head ache by pacing up and down then you've been giving me a fucking migraine for the past month. What was that in there Jayden? That was the worst I've ever seen you in an audition."

"I don't know what went wrong." I said, leaning forward to rest my hands on my knees. "I kept getting distracted."

"I know you kept getting distracted Jayden." Jack said, coming to a stop in front of me. "I was there." I ran a hand through my hair. "What's going on kiddo." Jack asked. Something in his voice changed and when I looked up at him, the angry fire had gone out of his eyes, replaced with what I would have called concern. He sat down next to me, even though Danny had already pulled out outside the audition studio. I could feel Jack's eyes burning a hole in the side of my head.

"Does this have something to do with Spencer?" Jack asked softly.

At the mention of her name, my insides twisted up. It'd almost been a week since I'd run into her out the front of the burger store. I wasn't going to say anything to her because I knew how much she hated me, but I couldn't help myself. I was out of the car and across the street before I knew what was happening. She didn't look at me with anything but annoyance, tapping her foot on the sidewalk like she was bored in my presence. But I'd seen how her breath quickened and how her cheeks held a light tinge of pink to them when I spoke to her. I knew I was still in for a chance.

Ever since then, I'd been distracted from anything that anyone tried to get me to do. All I could think about was finding a way to get myself out of this awful situation and tell Spencer how I really felt about her. If it wasn't for Hayley Jones and the hold she had over me, for reasons I don't want to think about, Spencer and I wouldn't be in this mess. I let out a sigh, ignoring Jack's question.

"Come on." I said, standing up and stretching my arms up above my head. "Let's go get some lunch. I'm starved."
