Chapter Nine: Yeah. And I'm secretly dating Dylan O'Brien
I didn't see Jayden for a week after our little hang out at his apartment. Well. I didn't see him face to face, but I did see him. Every time I turned on the TV, I saw our selfie on one news show or another, it was getting re-posted and re-tweeted every time I checked my social media and if there's anything worse then walking into your art class at collage and then begin bombarded by your class mates for details on your 'boyfriend' all going at a million miles an hour, then I feel sorry for whoever has to deal with that all on their own.
Finally, Mrs James managed to grab me and steer me into the supply closet at the back of the class. She sent me a sympathetic smile as she closed the door and turned to me, leaning back against the wall.
"So." She said, sliding her hands into the pockets of her paint splattered apron. "How did you meet Prince Charming?" I scowled at her.
"I've already talked about Jayden enough in the last three days to last me a life time." I said bluntly. "I really don't feel like discussing him again whilst locked in a supply closet." Jena smiled.
"I'm sorry Spencer. I will admit I was curious. You didn't seem like the sort of girl who would date the big boys. You seem like you'd rather stick to the shadows." I flashed her a small smile.
"Well you know." I said, smiling as enthusiastically as I could, "the things we do for love." Jena eyes me suspiciously, like she didn't quite believe me, but in the end she let me go, opening the door and letting me dash past her out into the light and away from the suffercating smell of paint fumes.
When I arrived at the cafeteria, I spotted Taylor sitting by herself by the window, her eyes glued to her phone as she twirled a fork through a container of spaghetti. She flashed me a smile as I sat down opposite her, sliding her phone into her back pocket. Since the night I went out with Jorden, Taylor and Zoe, Taylor and I had become rather close. We seemed to have a lot in common, but I think that might have involved the two idiots, one of which we both called our best friends.
"Where's Jorden and Zoe?" I asked as I pulled my sandwich out of my bag. I'd always hated cafeteria food, so I always stopped over at Walmart in the mornings to pick up some actual food.
"Zoe had really bad cramps so Jorden took her home." Answered Taylor. "In actual fact, I pity the poor boy. Zoe was crying when he carried her to the car." I winced as I took a bit of my sandwich. The last time Zoe had had her period, I'd spent the intire day running back and forth with pain killers and hot water bottle, chocolate and hot food. She even made me unwire the TV and set it up in her room so she didn't have to miss her favourite show. Talking about bitchy.
"Yeah." I said, "Jorden is one brave man."
"Well," said Taylor, pressing the lid onto her empty container, "he does have two older sisters and one younger, so I guess he's used to it." That made me laugh.
"Oh the poor boy." I said. "Still, I'd rather it be him then me." Taylor shook her head at me.
"You are the worst best friend." She said. I scowled at her playfully.
