Chapter Seventeen: Houston, we have a problem

When Jayden's car picked me up the next morning, it was still dark outside. I threw down a bowl of cereal before I left Zoe a note on the kitchen bench and dragged my suitcase down the front steps. Danny came hurrying up out of the rain and took my case from me, holding an umbrella over my head.

"Good morning Miss!" He called over the loud rain, tipping his hat to me.

"Good Morning Danny!" I called back. I tugged my coat tighter around me and dipped my head against the wind as we made our way to the car. Battling with the umbrella and the strong wind, Danny barely managed to get the door open for me. When I finally slid across the seat and into the car, I couldn't feel my cheeks and my nose which were the only parts of me that weren't covered. I let out a breath as Danny slammed the car door shut and took my beenie off my head nodding at Jack and his assistant Rose who were sitting across from me. Then I turned my attention to Jayden who was sitting beside me with a cup of something hot held between his hands.

"You better have a good explanation for this." I said bitterly, taking off my wet gloves and blowing hot air onto my freezing fingers. "If we're going to watch the British World Cup I will kill you." Jayden bent down to his feet and came up again with another mug of the hot thing he was drinking.

"Take this." He said, completly ignoring my question. "I take it you didn't have coffee this morning."

"Of course I didn't have coffee this morning." I said, snatching the drink out of his hand. "I hardly slept last night and when I finally did, it was only to be woken up by my alarm half an hour later."

"Sleep now." Said Jayden. "And I'll wake you up when we get to the airport."

"No thank you." I said. "I'm not tired."

"Spencer." Jayden said sternly. "Get some rest. Please." After staring each other down for a good thirty seconds I let out a sigh and handed my drink to Rose.

"Fine." I said. "But only because you asked nicely." I rested my head against the window and closed my eyes. I though I wouldn't be able to sleep because of the bumping of the car, but boy was I wrong. As soon as my eyes closed, my breathing slowed and I was asleep within seconds.

I awoke with a start to the sound of a loud voice coming in over the speakers.

"Ladies and gentlemen we are now ready for takeoff. Any luggage must be sorted in the overhead compartments by our friendly staff for take off. We will be arriving at our destination in just under eight hours. Food and drink will be provided when asked for. Please keep your seatbelt fastened when the red light is on and keep your chairs up right and trays in during takeoff. My name is Captian McCullan, thank you for choosing Delta airlines and please enjoy your flight." I turned my head to look around me. I was lying under a light blue blanket in a comfy chair beside Jayden who was reading a newspaper that Danny must have grabbed for him. Danny, Jack and Rose were sitting in their own chairs spread out over the plane. There was a hostess wandering around with a try of drinks and another moving around pushing a tray of snacks. It was then that I realised that we five were the only ones I could see.
