"I think I love the rain because I am a mermaid that loves too far from the ocean."
Epilogue: Straight to Number 1
Six months later
I didn't realise it was possible for two people have so much stuff. To tell the truth, most of it was Zoe's, that she'd left in boxes all over the apartment that she and I shared, but still. Our apartment was the size of a shoe box. It was as though every cupboard or draw I opened had more stuff in it that had to be packed. Maybe we should have moved in here rather than to Jayden's apartment apartment. About three months, when we were out on location for the zombie movie Jayden was shooting at the time, he asked me to move in with him. He said it made more sense to permanently live at his apartment, when I was pretty much there all the time anyway. Since Zoe had moved out, our joint apartment had become lonely and empty. I really only used it to shower and to sometimes sleep if Jayden was on a night shoot. Toby even lived at Jayden's. He had all his toys and his bed there already. Taylor was teasing me that my dog moved in with my boyfriend before I did.
But before we could start the move, Jayden had to finish his movie and I had heaps of college work I had to do. And then we both got so busy with different things, my exhibition was a lot bigger than I thought it would be and Jayden got signed to another tv show. But we finally put aside a week to do all the work and to move in properly. It felt odd, like the ending of something, but also the start of something new.
"Babe!" Jayden yelled from downstairs in the living room, "We can't take all of Zoe's stuff with us! If we do that, we won't have any room for any of your stuff." I put down the tape gun I was holding and jogged down the stairs, sticking my head around the doorframe. Toby was bouncing around my legs, whining constantly. Ever since we'd started boxing things up, he'd been incredibly clinging. Probably because the last time this happened, I had to leave him with Prim for a few days before I was ready for him to arrive. There wasn't really any way to tell him that he wasn't being left behind and that we were taking all the stuff to the place where he was currently spending every night. Toby loved Jayden. But that was probably because he took him for a long run every morning and then gave him treats afterwards. He got treats from me, just not the run. I'm not really a running kind of person.
I went over to Jayden, picking Toby up and placing him on the sofa. He'd opened the cabinet under the tv and found about another three boxes full of Zoe's stuff. I smacked a hand to my forehead.
"I just mailed a whole bunch to her. There is no way I'm doing it again. If it's not with her, she can't need it that badly. Jayden sat back on his heels, thinking.
"We're giving the keys back to your land lord today." He said. "Everything else is basically packed. You've got your room to finish, but that's about it."
"There's a few things in the bathroom as well." I reached up and fondled Toby's ears. He let out a yawn and dropped down onto his stomach, resting his head on his paws. All this stress was making him tired.
"Tell you what." Jayden sat down on the floor and turned to face me. "I'll run into town and get us some lunch from somewhere. Whilst I'm doing that, you FaceTime Zoe and make sure there's nothing in these boxes that she wants. Then, when I come back, and we've had lunch, I'll drive them all to the local thrift shops and see if they'll take them."
"You know what." I said, smiling at him. "Thank sounds like the perfect plan."
"Ok then." Jayden let forward and kissed my forehead. "Let's do this then. We are so close to sharing a house." That made me laugh.
