Chapter Fourty Two: We can be like Romeo and Juliet
The first thing that popped into my head was 'this can not be happening'
But it was and to be perfectly honest, there wasn't a lot I could have done to stop it. Even if I had wanted to. Part of me was furious with myself because he made my heart flutter. But I'd come to terms a while ago that my feelings for Jayden were a lot more then just a school girl crush. They weren't going to go away just because I was ignoring him. I unfortunately learnt that the hard way.
"Spencer." Jayden said again. "I know you're out there." People were looking over their shoulders, peering into the faces of the people beside them and craning their necks to see over the top of the crowd. Part of me was tempted to just inch down in my seat and pray that the spot light that was sweeping the audience would simply wash over me. But then Taylor dropped her hand onto my knee. She was sitting beside me, her eyes warm and kind. Without saying a word, she dipped her head in the direction of the stage. I got her message loud and clear without even having to hear her say the words.
You need to do this.
And she was perfectly correct.
But before I could open my mouth to even try and talk over the situation, the person in front of me turned around. His eyes went wide and he jumped out of his chair, letting out a loud yell that made my ears ache.
"She's here!" He yelled, jumping up and down like a kid in a candy store. "She's here!" The spot light picked me out, liuminating me to the rest of the world. I was tempted to stand up and sprint for the exit, but something in Jayden's face made me stay in my seat.
"Spencer." He said. "Will you come up here." My mouth went dry. Up there? With him? IN front of hundreds of people? I shook my head as fast as I could.
"Come on Spencer." Taylor whispered encouragingly. "You've been on TV before. In front of hundreds of thousands of people."
"Techniqually I was in a studio." I hissed. "People were watching me from home. In their living rooms. Hell, I was watching it in my living room three days later! There was over 72 hours between me and the viewers."
"Spencer you're being ridiculous." Zoe said, suddenly leaning across Taylor and Tyler so I could see her. "Do you think we all put up with Jayden's company this afternoon for nothing?" I whipped my head towards her so fast my neck cracked.
"What did you just say?"
"Look, we don't have time for this." Said Jordan, suddenly butting in. "How about we talk about this at home because right now Spencer, you need to get your butt up onto that stage and try to save the one thing that has made you happy in a long time." I blinked at him. How Jordan knew that much about me I will never know. I didn't even know his middle name. "Go!" He hissed. "Before I drag you up there myself." I turned my attention back towards the stage. Jayden was still standing right in the middle, but only he now had one had extended out in my direction. Taking a deep breath, I rose to my feet. The audience burst into cheers, jumping to their feet and screaming as the spotlight followed me down the auditorium steps towards the stage. My heart was beating so fast as I climbed the steps I was worried it might beat right out of my chest. Jayden met me at the top of steps.
