(Leo's P.O.V)

It was a Friday, the day I should have died. I walked to my friend Jason's house from school, backpack slung over my shoulder and binder in hand from math, papers flooding the rings and protruding from the pockets. My day had been stressful, filled with being stuffed into a locker again by one of the football players on Jason's team, then missing science and getting lunch detention because of being locked in the locker, I also had been blown off by most of my close friends because they were going on dates with their partners. Jason didn't though, his girlfriend Piper was going shopping with her friend Selena.

I hopped up his front steps and rang the doorbell, his older sister Thalia answering. Her electric blue eyes glared daggers at me as I wiggled my eyebrows at her, she was definitely something that girl. Thalia crossed her arms, the black leather jacket she wore hugging her frame and a piece of spiked hair fell over one eye. I gave her one of my signature smirks that I knew was going to piss her off, she hated men and despised my attempts to flirt with her.

"What's shakin' Thalia? Still don't want a piece of ol' sexy Valdez here?" I gestured to myself and her eyes blazed with anger.

"Just get your scrawny ass in here before I kick it into next week, you're lucky I don't break your nose right now." Thalia turned and hollered into the house. "Jason! The weird skinny one is here!"

His blonde head popped out from around a corner and he smiled sheepishly. As Thalia sauntered back to her black painted door, Jason scratched the back of his neck and let me in.

"I think she's starting to warm up to me," I grinned and he rolled his sky blue eyes.

"Whatever Leo, come on into the living room, I have the latest episode of Ghost Adventures paused for us to watch."

I nodded and made my way to the couch as Jason went into the kitchen to grab drinks and snacks. I tossed my backpack across the room and flopped onto one of the cushions, sprawling out on the furniture like I lived there, which I technically did. My foster parents were dick-bags so I hung around Jason's house most of the time, his home was basically mine. I felt wanted and loved there, except by Thalia, but that was just her nature. Once I didn't flirt with her she was like a mom to me, just like Piper and Annabeth and Hazel, they all saw me as the baby to take care of.

Jason soon walked in and set a Coke on the table for me while he sipped on a bottle of water and unpaused the show. We both laid on the couch and watched TV for a while, the silence comfortable, but I barely paid attention to what we were watching. My mind ran a mile a minute and my fingers tapped against my stomach restlessly. Jason seemed uneasy as well, he kept glancing at me and opening his mouth, as though he was trying to start conversation, then he would shut it and go back to the television. Honestly, after three years of friendship you would think talking would be easy at this point.

"Hey Leo?" The blonde finally spoke after a couple minutes of opening and closing his mouth.

"Hm?" I hummed, placing an arm behind my head and turning to face him.

Jason licked his lips nervously, eyes darting everywhere but at me. I raised an eyebrow, a little concerned, I had never seen him so nervous. Jason was usually the cool, calm, collected one. He was basically a walking statue of composed emotion.

"Well. . .I've been thinking about this deeply lately and. . .Piper and I are very serious, ya know?"

And there it was. Girl talk. I had been waiting for him to bring up his girlfriend. It wasn't that I didn't like Piper, I loved her like a sister, but it got annoying sometimes when Jason would go on and on for hours just about her. I didn't have anyone to discuss about, I was the only single person in our group, besides Nico. It just made me feel bad because I had to sit there and listen to my friends ramble about what they had recently done with their girlfriend. All I wanted was some nice bro time with no girl talk, was that too much to ask?

But once again, I put on my happy mask for him.

"Yeah I know man, you guys are the perfect couple. What's on your mind?"

Jason sat up so I did as well. "Um, I was thinking that maybe I should take the next step with her. As in. . .sexually? I-I mean we're graduating in a month and Percy is holding that big party, I was just considering making it. . .memorable."

I sat there, a deadpan look on my face. Jason was asking me what to do? I hadn't even had my first kiss yet, and he was talking to me about sex! Just. . .what?! I looked away from him, anger bubbling up and I got up from the couch, grabbing my backpack.

"I don't know what to tell you dude, ask Percy or something." I slung my bag over my shoulder and headed for the door as Jason followed me, confusion written on his face.

"But I'm asking you, you're my best friend and-,"

"-Yeah, your best friend who hasn't even come close to holding hands with a girl. Did you honestly expect me to give you a reasonable answer from experience? I'm even more clueless than you on a topic like that and you should know that! See ya later." And I walked out of the house. I knew it was wrong for me to get angry, but years of pent up emotions burst and tumbled from my mouth.

I walked down the street, grumbling angrily to myself with my head down. My house was a few doors down and across the road, there were no crosswalks so I had to run back and forth across the street whenever I went to and from Jason's home. I turned and stepped down from the sidewalk onto the road, not even seeing the car speeding towards me. A loud honking made me freeze and spin around, the front end of the car right in front of me. Time slowed as I stood rooted to the spot, eyes wide as I watched the car come straight for me.

'I'm going to die,' I thought to myself, and I should have. My eyes squeezed shut and my body tensed, prepared for the impact and for my body to be flattened into the pavement.

I waited, and waited, and waited, but the excruciating pain never came. I felt myself get pushed gently onto the ground, a soft body wrapping themselves around my own. Instinctively my arms encircled the person's torso, my face burying into their smooth neck. As time passed, my eyes snapped open and I sucked in a breath I hadn't realized I had been holding. My vision cleared and I saw a girl on top of me. My breath almost stopped again as she was gorgeous, she had a slight glow to her and her features held concern as she stared down at me with big (e/c) eyes.

I looked to my left to see her hand set against the front of the car, a slight dent in the metal. I remembered hearing brakes and a light crunching sound. Had she stopped the car? That was impossible, until I felt warm sleek something's remove themselves from around my body. I leant up on my elbows to see huge white wings protruding from the girl's back, hovering over me protectively. My jaw dropped to the floor as I got a better look at the girl. Her skin was smooth, her features angelic, and I saw why. A glowing halo encircled her soft looking (h/c) hair, she was an angel.

The girl then gave me a soft smile, and disappeared into thin air. I sat their on the pavement, stunned and frozen. A single white feather fluttered into my lap, indicating that she had flown away, not teleported. I heard voices from the people coming out of the car but they were muffled, like I was underwater. I had been saved by an angel, an angel. I should have died that Friday, but she chose to spare my life. Why? I didn't know, but I had to find out.
