"SHE'S NOTHING BUT A SELFISH BRAT THAT I DON'T WANT IN MY HOUSE!" Your step parent screamed at your (m/p).

"YOU CAN'T TALK ABOUT MY DAUGHTER LIKE THAT!" They screamed back as you sat on your bed upstairs, knees pulled up to your chest crying. The tears kept flowing along with the arguing. You still didn't get used to it, it happened almost every night and tonight you just couldn't take it anymore.

You got up from the bed grabbing a backpack stuffing clothes and other essentials into it. Books, your sketch pad, candy, drinks, phone, etc. Tossing the bag over your shoulder you opened the window and climbed down, hands gripping the gutter until you dropped to the ground. The soft damp grass broke your fall and you got up running into the woods behind your house, crickets making an almost soothing melody in the night.

The brush crunched under your feet, briar bushes scraping your legs and arms as you shoved them aside but you didn't care. You had to get away. Get away from it all.

You turned the corner around a tree to come to the edge of a steep drop off, the darkness below almost swallowing you whole. You teetered on the edge, arms flailing to try and get your balance but then gravity sucked you down. A shrill scream erupted from your lips but was cut off as a hand grabbed the front of your shirt pulling you back to solid ground. You grabbed on to the persons arms as they held you close.

"Are you okay?" A boys voice said in your ear and you looked up to brown eyes filled with concern boring into yours.

Everything stopped, sounds, feeling, smell. It was like a switch was flicked. You both stared at each other, his brown eyes putting you in a trance as he stared back at you, lips slightly parted. Then everything came crashing back down, the sounds of the forest filling your ears again.

"Are you okay?" He repeated and you nodded.

"Y-Yeah, I think so."

"Good," the boy let your arms go and you stood up straighter taking a good look at him. Wild curly brown hair, pointed ears, copper skin, navy blue shirt, dirty jeans, brown boots, an orange felt backpack over his shoulders, and big brown eyes. He stared back at you then gave you a smile.

"Ran away too?" He asked.

"Yeah. My (m/p) arguing with my step parent." You said and he nodded.

"I can relate. I have, well had, foster parents. Didn't like me very much. They locked me in the closet earlier tonight for stealing food from the fridge and I had enough. So, here I am."

You stared at him in disbelief. People really did that to kids? You had watched plenty of crime shows where that happened but you didn't believe it was actually true. Now, here was living breathing proof.

"I. . ." You couldn't think of anything to say and he smiled a little.

"It's okay, it was nothing new. I'm Leo, Leo Valdez." He held out a hand to you and you shook it.

"Nice to meet you Leo, I'm (y/n) (l/n)." You greeted and his smile widened.

"I know that we just met and all but, wanna run away together?"

Your heart swelled with excitement and you nodded. "Yes, that sounds wonderful."

After a few hours of walking in the woods you both took a brake. You sat on a log as Leo built a fire, gathering dried branches and making a circle of stones then lighting a match throwing it onto the wood. Soon a fire blazed in front of you and you smiled as Leo took a seat next to you.

"Want something to eat?" You asked him rummaging around in your bag.

"Yeah, I'm starving."

You took out a candy bar and a soda handing it to him and he smiled appreciatively digging into the food moaning with pleasure.

"Oh my god I haven't had candy in so long I forgot what it tasted like."

You giggled and munched on your own bar sipping from a soda can. "Good?"

Leo nodded vigorously scarfing down the candy in seconds and downing the soda in a few more. You watched amused as the boy crushed the can throwing it into the fire along with the candy wrapper, your eyes noticing the way his curls would glow from the light of the fire and the way it danced in his eyes. Leo turned to you suddenly and you blushed taking a sip from your soda.

"Thanks for being with me (y/n). It, really means a lot. I'm usually on my own." He confessed staring at his hands. You moved closer to him taking one of them in your own.

"I am too, I'm not going to leave you Leo. Not now, not ever."

You stared at each other, his brown eyes boring into your (e/c) ones making a shiver go down your spine. He seemed to be connecting with you in a way only you both could understand. It was. . .magical.

"You know, the first time I saw you, I knew love at first sight existed." Leo whispered and your heart thumped against your chest a little harder.

"Leo," was the only thing you could say and he leaned in, eyes fluttering closed, his breath touching your lips making you shiver. Was this really going to happen? You were about to find out.
