First and Last

Chapter 10

                Leo drove me home. When I was about to enter our house someone called my name.

                I looked back and saw Scott.

                “What are you doing here?” I asked him.

                “I just want to talk to you.”

                “Forget it. I won’t talk to you.” I was about to open the door when he said, “I will never again bother nor talked to you if you talk to me.”

                I took a deep breath and looked at him.

                “Let’s go to the park.” He said.

                I nodded. The park was only a few blocks away. We sat at the bench where we usually sat years ago.

                I noticed that he was holding his guitar but I never said anything.

                “Do you love him?” he asked.

                I never thought he would ask me this. “Yes.”

                “Are you – “ he stopped.

                “Do you – “ he stopped again.

                I heard him chuckled nervously. “I know this will happen.”

                I looked at him and he was – crying.

                “What are you saying?” I asked him looking away. I don’t want to see him like this.

                “I went back – for you. I thought maybe you will listen to me now that years already passed.”

                “I’m listening now.”

                “But it’s too late. You are his now.”

                There was this pain again. The pain I felt years ago.

                “And you love him.”

                My eyes started to water. Why am I crying?

                He then started playing his guitar. “I know you know this song I’m going sing. This is for you.”

                He was right, I know this song. One Last Cry by Brian Mcknight.

Are mending on the shelf
