First and Last

Chaper 25

                I was waiting for Leo in the parking lot. I told him to see me after class. So, here I am waiting for him.

                I saw him coming closer to me. He was smiling at me. “Why did you ask me to meet you here?” he asked giving me a peck on the cheeks.

                “I’ve got something to ask you,” I said seriously. I took a deep breath.

                Leo was looking at me. He looked serious now.

                “Do you - love me?”

                His eyes widened at my question. “Why are you asking me that question? Of course I do.”

                “The time you courted me, do you really like me that time?”

                He was taken aback by that question. He was looking straight at me. “Did Celine talked to you?”

                “Just please answer my question Leo. And please, with honesty.”

                He was still staring at me. He took a deep breath. “No.”

                My heart felt like it was stabbed. I really felt the pain washing over my body. I felt so weak.

                “When – “ I couldn’t stop my tears now.

                “Please don’t cry Lindsay,” Leo said coming closer to me but I stopped him.        

                “Do you really love me?” I asked him.

                “I do,” he said.

                “When did you realize that you love me?”

                I waited for his answer. “The day I sang to you. Please Lindsay, listen to me.”

                I nodded at him.

                “Did Celine tell you everything?”

                I nodded.

                “Do you want to talk inside my car?” he asked me.

                I’m glad he suggested that because my knees would give up any minute now. We went to his car and he locked the door.

                “Celine and I. We were lovers back then. We’ve been together for five years – “

                “Don’t tell me how you two broke up. I already knew,” I interrupted him.

                He nodded. “I felt so hurt that she cheated on me.”

                “She didn’t.”

                “What?” he looked at me.

                “She didn’t cheat on you. If you just listened to her. If you just let her explain.”

                He sighed. “So I courted you.”

                “To forget her?” I asked him.

                He nodded slowly. Hearing the truth was really painful.

                “It felt so real Leo,” I said not looking at him. My tears won’t stop flowing. “It felt so real.”

                “It is real,” he said reaching for my hand but I closed my fist.

                “No it’s not. You still love her,” I said.

                “I – “ he stopped. Maybe he realized that he really did still love Celine.

                “Please don’t leave me,” he said hugging me.

                God! I will miss him! His smile, his face, his kiss, his hug, everything! But I needed to let him go. He loves someone else and that someone else loves him.

                “Celine. She really wants you back,” I said pushing him away slowly.

                He leaned on the car seat. “Lindsay. I’m sorry. I’m sorry for hurting you.”

                Stupid or not? But I understand what Leo feels right now. We experienced the same thing.

                “No need to say sorry,” I said. “Will you go to her?”

                He looked at me.

                “I love you.” He said.

                I smiled at him. “Someone else deserves that.”

                “I meant it Lindsay. I love you.”

                “Tell me. Who do you love the most, me or Celine?”

                He was thinking. I smiled. “You can’t even say.” I laughed. “Please unlock the door.”

                “Don’t leave,” I heard him say.

                “Just be happy Leo,” I said.

                “I am happy.”

                “Are you happy with me or with Celine?”

                “I – Lindsay, please.”

                “I love you Leo. But I need to let you go. Celine and you, you are meant for each other. Will you throw your love away? You’ve been together for five years! Will you throw that away? It’s been only 3 months since you two break up. She was waiting for you.” I said and I guess this was my last speech to him.

                After a few minutes of silence, he unlocked the door and I went out. I knocked at the window and mouthed at him, ‘Good Luck’.

                Good thing I brought my car today. I went in and cried. I am happy for them. For Leo and Celine. They really loved each other. God! Five years!

                Scott. We’d been apart for three years. And he told me he was going to wait for me. Would this be our chance to be together?
