My mom was so busy cooking for the dinner tonight. There were Chicken Pot Pie, Barbecued Lamb Chop, Salisbury steak, Roast Lemon Thyme Chicken and many more. I can’t believe my mom cooked all of these.
“Mom,” I called.
“What is it dear?” she asked me.
“They might bring food too you know,” I said sitting at the kitchen chair.
“I know. I’m just happy and excited to see them again,” she said cooking something. “And aren’t you excited you’re going to meet Scott again?”
I looked at her. My parents didn’t know the real reason why Scott and I broke up. I told them that we broke up because they were moving.
“How many years have been?” she asked.
“Three,” I replied.
“Why don’t you help me cook?” she asked giving me her recipe book. I read and she was cooking Garlic Meatball Skillet.
“Oh oh,” my mom said when I read the ingredients. “We are out of sour cream. Will you buy some?”
“Sure,” I said. My mom gave me money and I went out. I decided to just walk since the grocery was not that far. I reached the grocery store and the owner greeted me.
“Sour cream, sour cream,” I mumbled while roaming around to find the sour cream.
“Lindsay?” someone asked and I looked and saw Reina.
“Hey Reina,” I said.
“What are you looking for?” she asked.
“Sour cream,” I said.
“I guess it’s in the second shelf from the counter,” she said. “I’m buying something for dinner. My mom just asked me to buy some.”
“Me too. We’ve got a dinner tonight with – “ I stopped. I can’t tell her we got dinner with Scott’s family tonight. “With a family friend.”
“That’s nice,” she said smiling.
Sorry Reina. I know you’ll be angry at me if you knew the truth about us. She would be sure jealous you know.
We went to the second shelf to get the sour cream I’m looking for. “Are you done with your grocery?” I asked her.
“Yeah,” she said showing me her basket of groceries.
We’ve paid and left the store. “You didn’t bring your car?” she asked me.
“Nope,” I said. “It’s just a few blocks away from us.”
“I’ll drive you home,” she said.
I smiled and nodded. “Thanks!”
On the way home, “Lindsay.”
“What is it?” I asked her.
“Do you – like Scott?” she suddenly asked me.
“What?”
“Do you like him?” she asked again.
Her question really surprised me. “No.” I said.
“Good!” she smiled.
“Why?” I asked her.
“Because if you do, I’ll leave him alone,” she laughed.
“Really?” I teased.
“Yeah. You are my friend! I just thought you like him,” she said.
“I’ve got Leo. And how come?”
“I don’t know. I could just feel it,” she said laughing again.
Ooh.
“And I think he really likes you,” she said.
I gulped.
“But since you are not interested in him and of course you’ve got Leo!” she laughed. “What am I thinking?”
“Yeah,” I said.
“Sorry about that. It’s just that – I really like him a lot even though he’s not interested at me at all,” she said sadly. “We’re here!”
I looked outside and saw my house. “Thanks for the ride Reina.”
“Sure. Good luck on your dinner tonight,” she said. “Have fun!”
I smiled at her and went out her car. I waved and she left. She really likes him. Should I tell her the truth?
