The sheets were soft beneath her skin as she adjusted her position on the bed. She woke up with her arm across Jacob's chest. He was still sleeping peacefully. Shit. She'd done it again. Fallen for him, but this time it was more than a kiss it was sex. How was she going to break his heart again... She couldn't, not only will it break him, but she'd be broken as well. But what about Grace... Her thoughts were disrupted by Jacob waking beside her.

Jacob opened his eyes and turned his head to look at Connie, "morning sweet cheeks."
"Morning muscles" she smiled up at him. Connie turned her wrist to look at the time. "Shit! I'm late for work." She moved out from under the covers and rushed out of bed. Jacob got up too, searching for some clothes. "What are you doing?" Connie asked watching him get ready for work.
"Getting ready. You said we were late." He said pulling on a pair of black jeans.
"You almost drowned yesterday and your not taking a day off." To be honest she could do with a day without him, to clear her head and think about what she was going to do.
"Nah I'm fine. Anyway Rita's not coming in so we're short staffed." Connie knew she was never going to persuade him to not go into work, so she just dropped the conversation.

Once they were both ready, they checked out and got into Connie's car. The journey was awkward as neither of the pair knew how to bring up everything that happened last night. Connie needed to explain that as much as she still loved him she still couldn't be with him.

They arrived at work after 45minutes with not much conversation. They shut the car doors behind them and made their way into work, both getting 'morning' and 'hello's' from the staff. Connie went straight into her office and sat down at her desk pretending to be doing paperwork.
After 20minutes Jacob knocked on the door, Connie sighed, "come in".
"Hey sweet cheeks i just wanted to let you know that I'll be filling in for Rita today and we have a RTC coming in 5" he winked at her before leaving her office. Great now she couldn't avoid him.

Connie made her way out of her office to help with the RTC coming in, "right what have we got?"
"Ella David, 16, was involved in a collision at approximately 30 miles per hour. Suspected broken arm, and laceration to the head. Ok on 3" the team gathered around to help move the patient onto the bed in cubicles. "123, shift." Ian and Jez left the patient to the doctors and nurses in cubicles.
"Ok let's check her over, specifically her neck and head please. Robyn can you call for a CT please just to be on the safe side. Ella do you remember what happened?" Connie asked. The girl started to fi-git.
"No! Just get off me please... just let me go." Ella began to sit up pushing anyone who tried to stop her off.
"Woah easy. Hey look at me," Jacob was holding onto the girls shoulders to calm her down. Ella hesitantly looked at Jacob. "Everything is going to be ok, alright, we're gonna get you out of here in no time. Do you have anyone you'd like me to call for you-"
"No! Nobody please don't call anyone" she begged.
"Ok ok. Now will you let me take a look at that arm? It looks very painful." The girl nodded slowly, so Jacob took hold of her arm gently and checked for a break.
Connie admired how good Jacob was with people. The way he just calmed the girl down she'd never be able to do that. She forced her mind to stop thinking about him and focused on the patient.

Ella was soon plastered up and clear from CT. A man was talking to Noel at reception as Connie was walking past, which she took no notice. "Mrs. Beauchamp." Connie turned to look at Noel waiting for what he had to say. "Mr. David here has come in looking for his daughter. I don't suppose you've seen her." He asked passing her a photograph of a blond girl.

"Oh yes she was brought in a couple of hours ago. Would you like to come with me." She walked towards cubicles with a nervous man following closely behind her. She opened the curtains to the cubicles where Jacob was stitching up the wound on her head.
"Oh, my darling thank god your ok!" Mr. David walked up to the bed and gave her a kiss on the cheek. Jacob moved away from them for a moment to give them some space, as he'd pretty much finished stitching her head.

Connie couldn't help but notice the girl looking more scared then happy to see her father. Jacob walked over to Connie thinking the exact same thing. "We'll give you two some time alone." Connie said walking out of the cubicle. She had barely spoken to Jacob all day after last nights events and really didn't want to have to talk about the situation knowing that their relationship can never happen anyway.

Jacob caught up with her wanting to address the issue about Ella and her "father". "Hey, did you notice that as well?"
"What Jacob?" She couldn't even look at him , as she pretended to be busy picking up some files from reception.
"Did you not think it was weird that Ella didn't say a word to her "dad" and I don't know about you, but i thought she looked... scared." Jacob was desperately trying to get Connie's attention.
"Well, y'know the girl's shaken up that's all." She still didn't look at him even though she knew he was right. Connie began to move away until Jacob held her arm making her look at him. "You can't even look at me can you? I knew you'd been avoiding me all day!" Jacob let go of her arm frustrated. Connie felt so guilty for doing this to him again. "Jacob, just stop worrying about me and worry about the patients ok." She walked away into her office holding a pile of folders in her left arm.
She shut the door with her heel harder then expected and slumped down into her chair behind the desk. The pile of paperwork was slapped onto the desk as Connie held her head in her hands. A tear began to run down her cheek.

Jacob was still standing at reception watching on at her when Ella's dad approached him.
"It's Ella! I went to grab a coffee for like 5 minutes and then I come back and she's gone, Ella's missing." He said frantically.
"Ok calm down. I'll find her ok? You look around in the hospital and I'll look outside." The man nodded and set off looking for her. Jacob glanced in the direction of Connie's office where she still had her head in her hands. He was still too angry at her to let her know, so he went straight outside to look for Ella.
