Even though there was no alarm clock set, Connie still woke up at 7:00am. She opened her eyes slowly, taking in the morning light coming from the window. Her arm was spread across Jacob's chest and their heads were close to each other. She smiled at him sleeping peacefully, before placing a kiss on his forehead.
Connie slipped out of the duvet and stood up, wrapping her white, silk robe around her slim frame. She tip-toed out of the room, and entered Joey's bedroom.
A smile spread across her face. Joey lied in his cot, wide awake, playing with the dangling toys above his head. The sight of his mother made him grin back up at her, happy that he had company.
"Happy Birthday Joey. I love you so much." Connie bent down to pick him. She held him at her waist, kissing every part of his face. "Shall we go and wake daddy up?" She bounced him in her arms causing him to giggle slightly.
She sat Joey down on the bed, in between her and Jacob. "Da-Da? Da-Da?" Joey began to crawl on Jacob's chest, until he finally woke up.
His father's eyes opened and he instantly smiled at his little boy crawling on top of him. "Hey lil man, Happy Birthday!" Jacob pulled him into his chest, giving him a hug. "Do you want some presents?" He tickled Joey's belly and under his arm-pits, making him squirm around on the bed, laughing. She admired the adorable sight of her baby laughing around with his daddy.
Connie knocked on Grace's bedroom door. "Gracie, are you up? We're going downstairs to open Joey's presents."
"Alright, I'll be down in a sec." Connie walked downstairs to meet Jacob and Joey in the living room.
Sitting on the marble coffee table were a load of presents wrapped in a baby-blue paper. Joey's little face lit up, as he launched forwards to grab one, sitting on Jacob's lap.
"Go on then little man, tear it open." He smiled down at Joey, trying to figure out a way to open the present.
Connie leant forward and made a little tear in the paper to get Joey started. With the help of his parents, the birthday boy opened his first present, revealing a children's play set. "Yay! Good boy Joey." Connie smiled at the sight of her son fiddling around with his new toy.
"What did I miss?" Yawned Grace, entering the living room.
"Joey just opened a couple of presents. He loves the toy keys don't you Joe? Watch out Con, he might start spinning them around his little finger like me." Jacob and Grace laughed at Connie's glare.
"No, Joey would never do anything like that, because he's not mean like you." She pouted her lips and squinted her eyes at him.
"Sorry babe, you love me really." Jacob leant forward to kiss her lips which she accepted as a good enough apology.
"Anyway, so what are we doing for the rest of the day?" Grace asked, eating some bacon from the fry up that they were all eating at the table.
"Well, some of Joey's friends are coming round at 2, but i was thinking we could go and have a picnic at the park before that came." Connie pondered. Jacob and Grace both nodded, continuing to see who could shove the most sausages in their mouth.
Connie scoffed at the pair of them, "Right, you two are making me feel sick, so I'm going to go and get ready." She stood up and headed out of the kitchen.
Jacob spluttered, shaking his head. He swallowed the sausages in his mouth. "No, you win Grace. That was impossible to fit anything else in my mouth."
Grace smiled proudly. "Looks like your doing the washing up then." She smirked, heading upstairs.
