It was 6:00am and Connie woke lying next to a sleeping Jacob. He was so perfect. She placed a kiss on his lips, which woke him up gently. "Morning muscles."
"What a lovely way to be woken up." He kissed her back, rolling over so that he was on top of her. Before the kiss could go any further, Connie pulled away from his lips, "Grace".
Jacob rolled off of her, as Connie reached for her phone. Nothing. What if Grace never even got to her friend's house? She never replied to any of Connie's messages.
Connie got out of bed quickly, holding her phone in her hand. She dialled Grace's number not caring about the time it was. The phone rang and rang until it stopped with no answer. Connie began to panic, dialling the number of her friend's mum. Jacob watched her from the bed, as she gradually grew more anxious as the time went on.
After a few rings, somebody picked up the phone. "Hello?" A sleepy woman answered.
"Hi Danielle, is Grace there. She said she was going round Chloe's and I never heard from her since then. We kind of had a bit of an argument and she stormed out of the house." Connie bit her nails waiting for the reply.
"No, I'm sorry but Grace never came round at all last night." Connie's heart sunk into her stomach, where was her little girl?
"She won't pick up the phone. How on earth am I supposed to know where she is!" Connie put a hand to her head anxiously.
"I don't know what to say. I honestly have no idea where she'd be."
Connie frustratingly put down the phone and turned to Jacob who had got out of bed and was already changed. "Alright well we need to look for her. I'll take my car and you take your's. Does Grace go anywhere in particular when she's upset?" Jacob asked.
"I, I don't know." Connie felt hopeless and just got changed as quickly as possible, not bothering to even do her hair.
The couple got into there own cars and both headed in opposite directions trying to look for her. Connie tried knocking on all of Grace's friends houses that she would've gone to, but still, nobody had seen her. It got to 9:00am and there was still no sign of Grace.
Jacob tried the local pubs, churches and shops. He rubbed his forehead in frustration, if it wasn't for him then Grace wouldn't be missing right now. She might've gone to the ED looking for her mum, Jacob thought as he spun the car around and headed in the direction of the hospital.
Connie had the same thought too and they both arrived in the car park at exactly the same time. "Charlie, has Grace been here?" Connie rushed through the hospital doors desperately searching for her daughter.
"No. Why would Grace be here? What's wrong?" Charlie noticed how anxious Connie was and dread to think about what had happened. Connie had no time to waste, walking back out of the hospital to search for her outside.
Jacob explained everything to Charlie and then followed Connie outside.
He jogged to catch up with her, "Connie wait.
We need to think about this. Maybe we should call the police." Connie turned around to face him. She thought about it for a moment before her phone started to ring. It didn't even have time to ring once, before Connie answered it.
"Hello? Grace is that you?"
"Mum, why aren't you in I've been waiting outside for ages." Grace sounded casual as if nothing ever happened.
Connie let out a sigh of relief, "I'm so sorry Gracie. I'll be right there, don't move." Jacob heard the conversation and was so relieved too.
The car journey allowed Connie to think about what she was going to say to Grace when she saw her. Why wouldn't she answer her calls? Where did she go?
Connie pulled up on the drive to find Grace sitting on the doorstep playing with her phone. "Grace!" Connie ran out of the car and hugged her daughter tightly. Grace pulled away from her confused, "Grace, I bought you a phone for you to answer it! Do you know how worried I have been? Jacob and I have been looking for you since 6'0'clock this morning. Where did you really go last night, because I know for a fact that it wasn't Chloe's." By now Jacob had arrived, but thought it be best if he just watched on from his car.
"I'm sorry. I was just so angry with you mum, and I went to Grandma's. She told me not to ring you, because you deserved to feel worried after going behind my back like that." Connie moved away from Grace. Anger bubbled up inside of her. How dare she tell her daughter that! Connie bit her lip to stop herself from shouting. Instead, she just opened the front door and walked in, forgetting about Jacob.
Jacob watched them enter the house. He knew what was coming, he'd be the one that Connie would take out her anger on, because she knew he could take it. Jacob sighed, he was probably going to get dumped again. Turning the key and starting the engine, he drove away from the house not wanting to go through the pain of losing Connie all over again.
