Her head stirred on his chest as she awoke from the best night sleep, lying on her hunk. She fluttered her eyes open and smiled at the sight of Jacob still snoring lightly. His chest rises up and down in a regular rhythm, lips slightly parted.
The digital clock on her bed-side table read 7:00am. Connie's eyebrows raised as she jumped out of bed as quietly as possible. She placed a kiss on Jacob's forehead and changed before heading downstairs.
In the kitchen, Grace sat at the table, already dressed, and eating some Jam toast. "Grace, your up early, you should've woke me."
"Oh, sorry I didn't know that was my responsibility. And good morning to you too." Connie shook her head at her daughter's witty response.
"Good morning." Jacob walked into the kitchen, stretching with a yawn. Connie was surprised that he was up, after all, he was still recovering.
"What are you doing up so early? Your supposed to be resting." She put her hands on her hips. Jacob rolled his eyes before reaching down to kiss her on the lips.
"I think I've done enough resting for a lifetime. Anyway, I didn't want to be late for work." Connie's eyes bulged at his last comment.
"You can't be serious." She scoffed, whilst making a coffee.
"Yeah well Joey is going to that day care thing and I'll be bored out of my mind here on my own, so I thought, why don't I just come in." He grabbed a slice of toast.
"That's ridiculous Jacob! Do you want the stitches to re-open?" She could feel the frustration building up in her over Jacob's recklessness.
"Oh come on Connie. Why are you making such a big deal about this? Woah, Grace what are you doing up so early?" Jacob changed the subject, realising Grace had been sat in the room the whole time.
"I go to school earlier now to meet some friends." She smiled. Jacob never thought he'd see the day when Grace got out of bed earlier than 7. Connie soon butted in though, determined to get the last word.
"Anyway, I'm not making a big deal out of it. All I'm saying is, you are not coming into work for at least another week and I'm the boss so that's that." She drank her coffee and headed towards the door with Jacob following closely behind her.
"Actually, Rita's my boss." He smiled smugly at Connie who slipped on her heels.
"And I'm Rita's boss, so beat that big guy."
"No your not, Elle is." Jacob folded his arms as Connie struggled for a response.
"Well, neither of them are going to let you work anyway and I'm taking the car now, so you won't even be able to get there. Bye Grace, have a good day." Connie opened the front door before Jacob could stop her and slammed it firmly behind her.
Jacob sighed, he'd just have to find another way to get to work. Grace walked down the hall way and sat on the step, beginning to tie her shoes. "You were never winning that one." She smirked up at Jacob who raised his eyebrows.
"Oh trust me Grace, this isn't over yet." Grace rolled her eyes at him, knowing how angry her mother would be if Jacob turned up to work.
"No way, you and I both know that is a bad idea. Do you actually know my mother?" Jacob frowned, not quite understanding the big deal that Grace and Connie were making this out to be.
"Yes, obviously. Anyway, it's my life and my body. If I feel I'm ready then I'm ready, ok?" The sound of Joey's cries came from upstairs.
"Well, good luck with that one. Sounds like Joey's hungry, bye Jacob." Grace opened the front door.
"Yeah see you later, have a good day." Jacob sighed, walking up the stairs. Today will be a tricky game to play. Jacob just had to play his cards right to get what he wants.
