Yasmin, the babysitter, left the house seen as Joey's parents had arrived home. Connie sighed, picking up Joey who would be 1 next week. The year had flown past and she had made sure that she spent every opportunity she had with him.
"Come on then, Joey, let's go and get changed." Connie walked upstairs holding Joey against her waist.
"Alright there Firecracker?" Jacob sat down next to Grace at the table, who was studying some work books carefully.
"Yeah you?" She asked, keeping her eyes on the sheet of paper.
"I'm great. Hungry?"
"Yep."
"What do you fancy? Italian, Chinese, Harvester?"
"I don't mind. I just really need to get this work done." Grace wrote down a few equations on the sheet.
Jacob smiled, it was definitely Connie's daughter. "Do you need any help?"
"No thanks, I'm good. I'll get ready in 10, I'll probably be finished by then."
"Alright Firecracker, take your time." Jacob winked, standing up and walking out of the dining room.
"Aw, your such a good boy." Connie pulled on Joey's jogging bottoms, whilst he smiled up at her.
Jacob watched them from the door of his bedroom, not even realising that he was smiling so much. "Yeah, how come your only good when mummy changes you eh?"
Connie turned around, holding Joey.
"That's because he loves me more." She teased him, before passing the baby into his arms. Jacob hugged him for a moment, taking in the beautiful baby scent.
"How's my boy then? Ready for a big 1st birthday party next week?" Jacob tickled his son, causing him to giggle and squirm.
"No da-da." He smiled at the adorable sound of his son's voice and stopped tickling him.
"Ok then, why don't you sit on the big bed while mummy and daddy get ready." He popped Joey onto the bed where he immediately began to bounce excitedly.
Connie waited for Jacob to stop him, but he just smiled at his son being reckless... Just like his father.
"Really Jacob, your going to let our 1 year old boy bounce on a bed, that close to the edge." Connie walked over to Joey's side so that she could catch him if he fell.
Jacob pulled off his t-shirt and walked over to the wardrobe half-naked. "Oh he's fine Con. Just having a bit of fun aren't you Joe?" At that moment Joey fell off the bed and gratefully into his mother's arms.
Joey began to cry into Connie's shoulder, a little shaken from the recent events. She hugged him tightly, rubbing his back soothingly. "And what would've happened if I hadn't been their to catch him? We would've been on our way back to work." She shook her head at a guilty looking Jacob.
"Well at least he knows now that if you fall, it's going to hurt." He laughed slightly.
"It's not funny Jacob. Just hurry up and get dressed." Connie rolled her eyes before walking out of the room.
"Hey Gracie, how's the homework going?" Connie asked, entering the kitchen. Joey waddled along side her, sniffling every now and then.
"I'm done now. What was all the crying about?" Grace smirked, looking down at Joey who wiped his nose on his shirt.
"Oh just Jacob, thinking it'd be fun to let your little brother jump on the bed."
Grace laughed, "did he fall off?"
"Eventually, but i was there to catch him. Thank god, we would've been on our way back to the ED otherwise." Connie opened the cupboard, grabbing a glass.
"Right, I'm going to get ready. Can we go soon? I'm starving."
"Yes as soon as your ready." Grace turned on her heel, taking her books and pencil case upstairs.
Connie sat down in the lounge with a glass of water. Joey followed her in, standing by her knees. "Oh, Joey we need to put your shoes and coat on." She stood up to look for his shoes and coat which she found at the bottom of the stairs.
Joey huffed, the things he hated most were, getting changed and putting shoes on. She smirked at her son's attitude at 1, what would he be like at 15?
"Come on Joe, it's not that bad. Sit down for me." He shuffled his little bum onto the bean bag and lifted his foot to let his mum put his Nike trainers on.
Jacob and Grace walked downstairs together, wearing smart dress wear. "Ready?" He asked, stepping into the living room.
"Yes, Joey and I have been waiting for ages. How long does it take to chuck a shirt on and some jeans?" She raised her eyebrows at him as he rolled his eyes.
"Sorry boss. Can I drive?" Jacob grabbed the keys off of the side and swung them around his finger.
"Absolutely not! Give them to me." She reached forward to grab them, but the sharp bit of the key scratched her hand as it swung around his finger. "Ow!" Dark red blood trickled down the side of her hand.
Jacob immediately stopped the spinning once he realised that he hurt her. "Oh, Connie I'm so sorry. Are you alright?" He reached forward to take a look at her hand, but she yanked it out of his grasp. "Come on Connie, I didn't mean it. Let me take a look."
"No, it really stings." She rolled up the sleeve of her blouse to prevent any blood from spoiling it.
"Oh, don't be such a woos." He teased, as her eyes glared up at him. Jacob smirked, slowly moving forward to take her hand in his.
This time she didn't pull away, just kept her eyes on his whilst he examined the cut. She adored his gentleness, as he held her hand, trying so hard not to hurt her. "Come on, let's get a plaster."
He lead her into the kitchen where he pulled open the medical cupboard, grabbing a plaster and some antiseptic wipes. "Sit."Connie rolled her eyes before taking a seat.
"This may sting a little." Jacob sat down opposite her, ready to clean the cut.
"I do know Jacob, I am a doctor." She raised her eyebrows at him. He smirked at her response, tearing open the antiseptic wipe packet.
The wipe was cold as it made contact with the cut. After a couple of seconds, the alcohol sunk in, causing Connie to wince a little.
Jacob then sealed the slit with a plaster, finishing off the job, quickly and easily.
"There you go Mrs. Beauchamp, all better."
Connie smirked at him, "No thanks to you."
"Well, who puts there hand into keys that are spinning around at a 100miles per hour."
"Oh please, you aren't that strong. Besides, it didn't even hurt."
"Whatever, you were practically crying more than Joey was earlier."
Jacob laughed as all Connie could come back with was a "shut it you."
Grace sighed from the hall way, "Can you two stop flirting, so that we can actually go and eat some food."
"Yes, sorry Grace." The couple walked into the hallway to meet the kids.
"Does this mean that I get to drive, seen as your so injured?" Connie grabbed the keys from the side, before Jacob could and opened the door.
"No, it certainly does not." She walked outside, pressing the button to unlock the door to the car.
Jacob admired her adorable attitude. She wins every time. He picked up Joey and buckled him into his car seat in the car.
The family set off to have a lovely meal out.
