Today was a new day. Jacob strolled into the ED in the hope that today would be a good one. He pushed open the doors to the hospital and walked through reception receiving many 'good mornings' and 'hello's' from the staff.

Jacob spotted Connie out of the corner of his eye, she was treating a patient in cubicles. She was wearing a white blouse with slim, smart trousers and of course, a pair of high heels. Jacob watched on admiring her, for a few more seconds before heading to the staff room to get changed.

Once he was changed, he walked out of the staff room to find some work to do. He spotted Connie at reception, so he decided to 'look for some files' over in that direction.
"Morning Mrs. B." He said as he approached the desk. She looked up at him and couldn't stop the small smile that spread across her face. "Good morning Jacob." She picked up some files and headed to her office, glancing back at him over her shoulder. He watched her walk away, smiling to himself.

"Jacob, planning on doing any work today?" Rita asked handing him a clipboard with some notes on it. "Cubicle 6, a young boy was brought in after falling off his bike. Only problem is he won't say a word. Your good with talking to people right?"
"Yeah sure, I'll get right on it boss." He walked over to the cubicle bed where the boy was lying.   "Hey mate, I'm Jacob." The kid just looked down at his hands that he was playing with and gave Jacob no reply. "I watched the new captain America movie last night. Do you like superheroes?" The boy thought about the question for a moment before looking up and nodding. "Me too, my favourite's probably Spiderman. What about you?"
"I like spiderman too!" He said excitedly.
"Cool. Did you know that I once read a comic about when Spiderman fell off his bike and even he needed someone to help him. So, little man will you tell me your name? I promise that I won't give out your secret identity." He said with a warm smile.
"Ok... it's Joseph."
"Hey, that's weird both our names start with a J and our favourite superhero is Spiderman. And if I tell you how old I am will you tell me how old you are?"
"You tell me first."
"Fine, but don't laugh, 39."
"That's so old!" Joseph laughed, "I'm 9."

Connie sat in her office watching Jacob through the blinds. He was so good with kids and had managed to get the child to talk to him when nobody else could. She decided to go and find out what was wrong with the boy and where his parents were.
As Connie walked out of her office, she was able to get a better look at the child. He looked like he was living on the streets from his dirty and ripped clothes. His hair was a dirty blond and long and shaggy too. She approached Jacob and the patient as they were both laughing about something. "Am I interrupting?" She asked picking up Joseph's notes. The boy suddenly, froze and went back to being quiet again.
"Hey, Joseph don't worry, this lady is just here to help you. She looks scary at first, but inside she has the biggest and warmest heart and will always help anyone who needs it." Connie smiled at the boy who was still reluctant to start talking to her. Joseph moved forward and whispered something in Jacob's ear.
"Yeah, she's saved my life before. So, fixing you up will take her no time. That arm looks pretty painful don't you think?"
"Yeah it is a bit, anyway how did this doctor save your life? What happened to you?" Joseph asked intrigued.
"Well, when I was saving some people from bad guys one of the bad guys shot me and if it wasn't for this amazing doctor then I wouldn't be here right now." Jacob looked up at Connie who had gone a shade of red. Joseph thought Connie was amazing and let her cast his broken arm in no time.
"Oh and Joseph I bet you didn't know that I am stronger then Jacob as well." She said wiping the blood from Joseph's head.
"Really, how do you know that your stronger then him."
Jacob stopped fiddling with some files and looked up, "because she cheated at arm wrestling." He smirked at Connie.
"Well if I was such a cheat then you won't be scared to have a re-match in the staff room in... 2 hours" she said looking at her watch.
"Your on." Jacob held out a hand for her to shake, which she did.

"Ok then bud I am going to find out where your parents are. Are you going to tell me what happened out there?" Jacob rested his arms on the metal bars on the bed.
"I... erm...-"
"It's ok you can tell us. We're really good at keeping secrets." Connie smiled at the boy.
"Ok well, my parents were having an argument 2 nights ago and I hated it. So, eventually I packed a bag and ran away on my bike. I bet they still haven't noticed that I've been gone." He said dropping his head down to his chest. Jacob lifted his chin with his hand, "Hey parents argue all the time and sometimes they make up and sometimes they don't, but what you got to remember is they will always love their little boy, no matter what." Joseph smiled at Jacob as he left to ring his parents.

2 hours later

"Are you ready?" Connie asked walking up to Jacob who was talking to Lofty.
"For what?" He smiled at her.
"Our arm wrestling match." She smirked at him playfully.
"Oh I'm always ready." Jacob winked walking towards the staff room where many of the staff were taking their lunch breaks. Jacob and Connie sat down opposite each other at a table.
The pair linked hands and put their elbows on the table, ready to wrestle. The staff gathered around to watch the re-match. "Ok, 3,2,1 go!" Lofty said standing at the end of the table.
"I could do this all day." Jacob said, as Connie struggled to move his arm. However, Connie had a very clever tactic coming up.
"Jacob don't move but there's a huge spider on your shoulder." She said sounding panicked.
"What? No get it off! Get it off!" Jacob shouted like a scared little girl. The staff all laughed at him. As, he weakened his grip on Connie she slammed his hand down onto the table. "Oh you cheated again!" Jacob laughed when he noticed that there never was a spider. "I want a re-match!" Connie got up from her seat and walked past Jacob, "I'm sorry but I'm busy right now muscles." She winked and walked out of the room.
