1 week later
Connie dropped Joey off at the nursery and Grace had already left for school unusually early again. It was 8:30 am and she was late for work on her first day back. Connie sat in traffic thinking about the day that lay ahead. It will be strange, not being the boss anymore. Urgh, Elle will be her boss. The thought made her feel sick.
Connie pulled up in the car park 10 minutes later, looking forward to visiting Jacob this morning, even though she was already late.
The ED was busy as usual and the familiar click of heels on the floor made heads turn.
Dr. Gardner spotted Connie and made her way over to her. Great, ready to question why she was late on her first day back.
"Connie, I know your already late, but if you still want to go and see Jacob then that's fine. We can hold the fort for a bit longer. I saw him before the start of my shift and he wouldn't stop talking about you and the kids so I think you should go." Elle smiled at Connie who was surprised at her kind gesture.
"Thank you Elle, I won't be long." Connie smiled back before heading up the lift to see Jacob. Was this the start of a new friendship? Now that Connie was with Jacob, she wasn't jealous of his relationship with Elle anymore and was actually relieved that she didn't have to be so strict now that she wasn't the boss.
Connie walked onto Jacob's ward feeling more relaxed then she'd felt in ages. A smile spread across her face at the sight of Jacob. He'd spotted her straight away and grinned at her beautiful figure. He admired the tight black skirt and white blouse which showed off her hips perfectly.
"Hey you." Connie kissed him tenderly before sitting down on a chair next to his bed.
"Hey, shouldn't you be at work?" Asked Jacob, surprised that she was here and not working.
"Well the new boss lady let me off. Anyway, how are you feeling?"
"Fit as a fiddle Mrs.Beauchamp, I'm suffering more of boredom than anything else." Connie rolled her eyes at him.
"Can't you just take this opportunity to relax for once. You need to heal properly and that won't happen if your walking around doing stuff." Jacob smirked at her, trying to take care of him.
"What's so funny?" She asked, confused about the smirk that played on his face.
"Your adorable." His smirk turned into a smile, as Connie's cheeks blushed slightly.
"Oh shut up you." She punched his arm playfully.
"Ow! Can't you see I'm wounded enough." Jacob tried to act hurt, but Connie knew what he was doing and showed no sympathy. She laughed at his pathetic yet adorable acting.
"Ah well at least I tried." He smiled before changing the subject, "So, what's been going on at home? Anything interesting?"
"Not really..." She thought for a moment. "Oh Joey laughed the other day, I started to feed him baby food in his high chair and I was doing the car noises when he just started giggling. It was so cute, I felt like I was watching the SMA advert where all of the babies start laughing." The though of his son laughing melted Jacob's heart, but pained him to think that he wasn't there to witness it for the first time. Connie noticed Jacob's smile drop. "What's the matter?" She frowned picking up his hand.
"Nothing, I just need to get out of here. I can barely sleep at night, because I miss you and the kids so much." Jacob searched her eyes for a sign of comfort.
"I know, I can't sleep without you either. We all want you back. Just a few more days and you'll be home, I promise." Connie leant in closer towards him, as they kissed delicately, their lips fitted each other's like a puzzle piece and anyone could tell that Connie and Jacob were lovers written in the stars.
