□□ It'll kill me but if that's what you need then consider me dead. □□

A marriage proposal was something that Jack thought about since he almost lost Kirsten. He didn't want to go over that painful feeling again. It felt like it was killing him.

Every hour he spent at the hospital was like being dragged slowly, and hardly since the atmosphere was so heavy. The others would strike up a conversation once in a while, but it wasn't enough for him to get his attention diverted. It wasn't even enough to make him talk back in his usual way.

He wanted to protect her, and to protect himself from the torture.

He wanted to protect what was left, the two of them.

He wanted to protect what Kirsten has - his love for her, and her budding love for him.

It was one of the few times that he felt sincere concern to protect other people. He wasn't totally alone back then, but he wasn't committed to anything else other than the band and his family.

Kirsten was the one who broke down his walls. The one who made him call out to her for more. The one who he wanted to run away with.

Unfortunately, Kirsten didn't want to run away with him. She actually wanted to run away from him. She let him down. He shaped her heart to fall in love with him but its faint beats wasn't enough to keep her going anymore.

Jack took out a ring that sparkled. The lights of the room made it shine. He was so happy that he was finally proposing to Kirsten, but she just looked at it with nervousness and a hint of rejection.

Jack felt so confused and lost. He knew at the back of her mind that Kirsten would not agree to his plan, but he still asked her hand for marriage.

When their eyes met, they went back to being like strangers again. He tried to take Kirsten's hand but she moved it back. They were like re-enacting what they did before Jack opened up about the proposal that same night.

He asked himself if it is going to be like that all over again. Because if yes, it means that Kirsten will eventually accept the marriage proposal just like how he convinced her to stay with him. But her actions were screaming NO!

"Why are you doing this?" Kirsten asked him, her hands still hiding under the blanket. Her eyes were still tired from crying, but it felt like it was still up for another round. It was too much for Kirsten to handle. It was too fast to take it all in at once.

Jack reached out to her hand again, but in a swift motion. He got hold of her arm and he pulled it out of its hiding place. "It's because I want you to stay with me."

"I already told you that I'll stay. I don't mean get married?! What the hell is wrong with you?" Kirsten's tone started to get pissed.

"Is it wrong to make you stay? Is it wrong to make you a part of my life permanently?"

"You think this is some kind of joke? A light matter?"

"You think my love for you is a joke? Everything I do is like a joke to you?"

"No. But you're taking this so lightly. We're not even an official couple yet."

"Do we really need to be like that if its just where we are going anyway?"

"Jack, I can't. I like you and-and I think I'm falling for you, but that's the end of it!"

Jack admitted defeat as he jumped out of the bed and threw the ring on the floor. He walked around in circles with his hands on his waist, "I thought you liked me, and you enjoy my company and I'm the one you wanted. I'm giving my all to you, for fuck's sake!"
