"You sure about this?" Eve asked her dear cousin. Kirsten nodded in response while looking out on the window.

"Did you tell Auntie and Uncle already?"

Kirsten already forgot about it. All those days, her mind was filled with pain and misery. But telling them what happened was a mystery for Kirsten. She thought it might just be an additional burden to her, and for them.

"Where the hell was your phone all this time?" Eve asked again as she turned right towards the drive-thru of a coffee shop. Kirsten turned her head towards her cousin. She forgot about checking that too, but she brought it along with her when she left Jack's house.

"They have heard about the stampede that happened." Eve turned off the engine and stepped out of the car, Kirsten followed after her. "They were worried sick for you."

Kirsten didn't know what to feel. She wanted to keep it from them. She knew that they would eventually find out about it, but she didn't expect it to be so soon.

She sat down on the chilly steel chairs just outside the window of the coffee shop while waiting for her cousin to come back with a nice cup of coffee. Kirsten noticed the Christmas decorations on the walls. It has the same wreath that she uncovered from Jack's decor boxes for Christmas. She never finished decorating, and the living room was a mess when she left that night.

Eve came with the coffee and some sugar plum frosted cupcakes which reminded her of a sweet and cold Christmas. She chomped down on the cupcake and took a sip of coffee to warm herself up.

"I know you wanted to rest, but we need to talk first."

Kirsten felt awkward with her cousin. They were never close to begin with, but she was the only one, Kirsten knew who would help her out. To be very concerned was something Kirsten didn't expect from her. Turns out, her parents also bugs Eve to visit Kirsten and for her to also pay a visit.

"Why did you want to run away?" her cousin asked again. Kirsten couldn't count the number of times her cousin asked a question. She hasn't answered anything, she didn't have any plan to. She just wanted some time alone.

"You're living with him, right?"

Eve kept on asking questions even if Kirsten just ignored it and acted like she didn't hear a thing. She never showed any signs of tiredness from reaching out to Kirsten.

Later on, Kirsten felt like she should just answer one so she would stop. "Hey." Kirsten started with a low voice. "I just lost my baby and then I was proposed to. I don't know what to feel, besides leaving."

Eve stared at her with a little smirk on her face, "Alright! I'll shut up now. I just wanted to know what you feel."

Kirsten thought her dear inquisitive cousin would really shut up by then, she was  so hopeful about it. But still she asked out, "Why run away from everything?" Kirsten cursed under her breath because of her nosy cousin.

Kirsten just raised her shoulders quickly, losing her extended patience for people she doesn't really care talking to. She took the last sip of her coffee, the same time Eve's cup clanked on the little saucer.

"Can you help me book a flight back home?" Kirsten asked, keeping her eyes down. She knew Eve was looking at her and she didn't want to be seen with such sad and unsure eyes.

If she knew it was the only thing that would make Eve shut up, she would have asked her from the moment she entered her car.

That night, Kirsten kept on weighing the things that would make her stay, and the ones that will make her throw herself out of Jack's life. She turned down his marriage proposal which still fucks her mind completely. Never in her imagination, would she turn down Jack Barakat, whatever proposal he makes for her. She weighs the things, but she made up her mind to leave.
