While Levi and I were trying to come up with a plan of action, my mother and Sterling were tightening the reins on their own investigation.

Levi sat down at his desk filing paper work when there was a light tap tap on his door. He looked up and saw Cassandra Brooks, my mother, paying an unexpected visit.

"Ms, Brooks," he stood up from his chair, "did we have a meeting today?"

"No no, officer," she said in a soft timid voice. "Do you have a few minutes to talk?"

"Of course, take a seat." Levi motioned to the chair on the other side of his desk and she sat down. "What can I do for you Ms Brooks?" He then sat down in his own chair.

"I was wondering if your team has found any news on Maisie," she asked, fiddling nervously with the strap of her purse. "I've left a number of messages with your receptionist but no one seems to return my calls."

Sterling has left numerous messages.

"We have no new leads, Ms Brooks," Levi explained, nearly choking on the ie he would have to tell. "Our team has been working overtime to locate her. We'll find her."

"I'm just a worried mother is all," she sighed, and hung her head. "Maisie should not be missing for this long. "

"I can assure you that we are doing all we can to find her."

"Thank you," she smiled ever so slightly. "Sterling and I appreciate everything you guys are doing. He's taking her absence extremely hard, they were close."

"She never mentioned him once in the conversations we did have about family."

"Well she's all he seems to talk about these days." She chuckled lightly. "I didn't realize how close they were till she disappeared."

A knot on Levi's neck started to form from irritation. He brought his hand to the back of his neck to rub it gently. Levi gave an uncomfortable nod, "He seems passionate about finding her that's for sure."

"I think Sterling feels especially guilty now because he doesn't feel like he's lived up to the kind of role model he wished he could have been. He's been in and out of her life at times and I think that's what is upsetting him so much." She shrugged her shoulders once, "I was hoping all this time that Maisie would come home because of the love she has for us. Officer, maybe, she doesn't think she needs us anymore."

Levi could tell that she sincerely sad. It wasn't just a way she was projecting her emotions but, he could see the deep, hopeless, sadness just by the look in her eyes.

It didn't change how Levi felt about Ms. Brooks or Sterling.
