His gestures with my hand caught me off guard. I frowned.
Levi's hand returned to the hem of my shirt and slid the material up. Instead of stopping him, I let him examine the bruises, its pointless trying to fight him now. His fingertips traced the bruises ever so gently. He asked, "You sure it doesn't hurt?"
"Nah, it feels fine."
"I should have took you to the hospital."
"Levi that would have been highly unnecessary," I said. "I'm sure if I had been slurring my words like a drunk and complaining of a throbbing headache, you would have." I tried to assure him with a smile. "All is well. Now can we just rest and put the whole, concerned daddy on the back burner? All is well in the life of Maisie Brooks."
"It would be impossible to have had a child at 3 years old," he joked.
"Don't be fooled, bud. The robots are going to take our jobs one day and if they can already allow you to pick a gender for your baby, they are not telling us everything. Someone could very well be a daddy at 3 right now and we wouldn't know. They probably have the poor child locked in a testing lab somewhere for 'science' research."
"That is still impossible."
"Anything is possible if you just believe!" I said quoting a scene from Pinocchio.
"Wow that...inspirational," Levi sounded sarcastic, brushing a stray strand of hair back from my face.
Why is he touching!
"I'm in a very inspirational mood it seems," I shrugged. There's a Disney quote for just about anything,
And just like that, the moment was over.
Levi placed his hands securely on my side, and then lifted me up so I could stand on my own two feet.
"We should open the door and blinds now," I said, leaning against his desk.
"But I kind of like it," he admitted. "It's been awhile since anyone has brought paperwork to pile on me."
"Since when have you become a complainer, Officer Knight?" I raised a brow. "I swear you told me the other day how much you love paperwork."
"I love the job but I hate the paperwork." He laughed. "Your outlook on life could be rubbing off on me."
"Uh you best get your ducks in a row, mister. I can't be around a slacker when I'm just trying to be a bit more motivated."
"Don't worry; I just like the privacy for once." Levi stood up and leaned over me as I sat on his desk. His gaze was gentle but intense---it was really confusing.
