When my mom came home later that night, Levi and one of his colleagues told her the news. I waited in the other room and eavesdropped  on their conversation and as expected it didn't go so well.

My mom was hysterical of course and as she should be. She was crying and screaming as if someone had died.

She was adamant that this had to be a big mistake. She even tried to say that the police department was corrupt and they were trying to frame Sterling.----Something about the department being resentful for the amount of money they spent on my missing persons case.

She couldn't believe that the husband she married would ever hurt anybody like that. She wouldn't have married him if she thought he would harm me.

My mother went as far to say that because I'm a compulsive liar that I had to be lying about this because I was, again 'jealous.'

Levi and his co-worker tried their best to state the facts and show her evidence but she wasn't convinced.

She made up her mind the moment they said the word, 'Arrested.'

Once again someone tells my mother that something bad happened and she can't believe that it could.

Levi and his co-worker left an hour later and then it was just me and my mom.

I read a poem once called A mothers promise. I wasn't on the internet researching poems or anything but it popped up on a Facebook status one day. It was a beautiful poem that a mother wrote for her unborn baby. Each line said a promise that she would make to her child. Some of the promises she made are: unconditional love, presence ,and protection. The thing that hurts my heart the most is that my mom was never able to meet those promises for me.

I knew deep down that my mom would be hard to convince but I still hoped that everything would work out. I hoped the evidence would be enough to convince her to finally side with me! I wanted her to believe that this man chose to hurt me over and over again. I wanted her to believe me!

It was silly for me to think that I was deserving of a happy ending.

I ultimately packed my bags and left with as much as I could carry.

She didn't want to me stay (without conditions) and I didn't want to either.

I found enough loose change in my room to take a bus to Levi's. I could have chosen to go to Travis which probably would have been the safer offer but he wasn't my first choice.

I made it to Levi's by 11:00 and I stood outside his door. I stood at the door for a while, rethinking my decision to come, but I knocked anyway.

He would understand.

The door opened so quickly that I jumped out of my skin.
