"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter" – Martin Luther King. Jr

---Whether it's been because I'm been away from Levi or not, sometimes when I hear the words it will get better, it doesn't feel like anything but a lie.

A voice called from behind me as I strolled down the school halls. "Miss Brooks, a word."

I turned around to find Mr. Pratt making his way towards me. My muscles tensed. I pursed my lips together and tightened my grip on my book bag.

Great.

I'm not in the mood.

He caught up to me. "Hey."

"Mr. Pratt," I tilted my head and eyed him suspiciously. "I handed in the English paper already."

"Can you stop by the classroom after school?"

"Can't, I have somewhere to be." I turned back around and headed for the cafeteria when I felt his pruney hands grab my elbow. Cold chills spread down my spine from his touch.

My entire body tensed up and I could feel my heart quicken.

My body wanted me to run.

My brain wanted me to get away from him.

"I won't keep you long."

Flinching, I pulled my arm back and kept walking forward.

Calm, Maisie.

Keep walking.

Get to the bathroom.

I don't know how he got in front of me without noticing him first. But he was and his hands were on my hips, stopping me from moving forward.

I grit my teeth together and pried his hands off my hips. "Keep your fuckin' hands off me!"

"Sorry," Mr. Pratt held his hands out with his palms facing up. "I wanted to talk to you."

I emphasized each word, "I said I was busy." I fixed him with a glare. "Leave me alone." I glanced around us to see students passing us with inquisitive looks.

Why haven't one of them asked if I was okay?
