I was really excited to go to the Police Banquet. I wouldn't be able to drink out of plastic cups or go crazy but this would be my first 'act grown-up' event.

This was my first real chance to show that I'm trying.

----Acting like a grown up.

No more police encounters for this girl.

Levi's voice bellowed through the door. "I'm not getting any younger here."

"----And you're not the only one with that problem."

"Come out Maisie Brooks, I haven't seen you all day."

"And there is a very good reason for that." I opened up the bathroom door and stepped out into view. I bit my bottom lip, "Is this okay?" I wore a pink single-shouldered cocktail dress with a criss-cross back. Coupled with high-heels, a bracelet and dangling earrings.

Levi's eyes roamed over me. Then a loud agonizing groan escaped his mouth.

"Something wrong?" I asked, batting my lashes; feigning innocence.

Okay maybe I didn't want to be too much of a grown-up.

Levi leaned forward in his chair and covered his face with his hands. "You think you're going to blend in with the rest of them, you're kidding me. You are already making this night more difficult for me."

I cocked my head to the side with an amused smile slipping across my face.

Does this mean there will be a police brawl for my attention?

"Why must you do this to me?" He groaned in anguish.

"--Cause it's fucken fun." I loved his reaction. "Control yourself, Levingston."

Levi removed his hands from his face and ran his fingers through his hair, "Why couldn't you wear a clown suit? That would sure make this night a lot easier. I don't want guys to look at you like they just found dinner."

Dinner.

I don't mind being dinner.

"When have I ever agreed to make your life easier?"

Levi moved his chair back and patted his lap, "Come here."

"Fine, but no funny business, mister," I pursed my lips together then approached him, settling myself on his thighs. I wrapped my arms around his neck. "Yes?"
