How do you tell someone you care about, secrets that you are so ashamed to admit out loud?

"Did you ever get a transcript of what was said between Sterling and I that night?"

"I did but I never read it," he said, watching me. "Why?"

"When I slapped Sterling, I did it because he brought up something really painful from my past. I ummm—" I paused. "This is so embarrassing to admit outloud. I umm---when I was in the 9th grade there was this teacher and we were together, Levi."

"Together." He blinked.

"My mom never was able to help me with my school homework and I was really struggling. She always had some boyfriend to keep her busy so I would often stay after school and get help. My teacher did a lot of tutoring after school so he would help me sometimes. He explained the material in a way I understood and it helped." I shrugged my shoulders, "I noticed I was getting better grades so I continued to work with him after school. Then one day he told me that if I wanted him to continue to help me, I would need to help him in return. I---I couldn't say no, Levi. I needed that help."

"You were with him." Levi started to pull away from me, but I held onto his hand.

"Please don't!"

"How long did it last?" he cringed.

"All through my grade 9th year," I said, squeezing his hand. "He didn't return the following year to teach." I never found out why he didn't return to teach the following school year but I always thought it had to do with me.  I'm sure it had something to do with me.

"He's just walking around a free man, great. He's most likely doing the same to other students right now, Maisie."

"I wasn't in any position to rat on him, Levi. I needed help and he was the only one ever willing to." There was a time where I really did care about school and grades.

"I'm sure there were others you could have asked for help from."

I shook my head and puffed, "No one wanted to help me, Levi, and that's the truth. I didn't have many friends and the people who knew me, knew my mother. People were afraid to come around me because they were concerned my mother would break their families apart. They thought I was the 'leech' that was running to tell mommy that, said persons father was looking for a lover.  Kids my age thought I was a homewrecker and I did nothing wrong.

I didn't break families apart. My mother did and I unfortunately took most of the heat for it.

"No wonder you like sex." He brought our hands to his lips again and pressed a chaste kiss on my hand. "It's all you've known."

I was relieved when Levi continued to hold my hand. I knew he was disgusted at first but maybe he's a bit more sympathetic now.
