Chapter 16~

The last time I had seen Polly being quiet and not saying a single word was when her boyfriend broke up with her. It was painful to see her being quiet, shaking in fear, and jumpy all the time. Even in the car while everyone was discussing whether Polly should stay at Will's mansion at the moment, she was quiet, she didn't include herself in the discussion, just bobbing her head up and down every time someone asked if she was alright. I knew it was tough for her, almost getting killed and all but how were we going to protect her if she looked like she was going to be insane and blurt every thing out the next second?

"Tea or coffee?" I asked Polly when we were at Will's place. Jeff tried to talk to her, cheer her up a bit but it didn't work. So I tried to be normal and pretend to see her as normal and not the jumpy Polly she was, and offered her a few drinks.

"No thanks, I don't-"

"Polly!" Will entered the room, a frowned plastered on his face. "Face it, Lance is going to try and kill you. With me, Flower and Jeff here, you're safe." Polly looked up at him and narrowed her eyes at him. Of course she was confused, Will never showed his temper side in school, it was the first time she saw Will fustrated..with her.

"Fine. I want every single detail...and the plans of course." she said as she played with her skirt, her blonde hair falling over half of her face. Sometimes I wished she had a better best friend than me, she deserved better than to be chased by Lance. But then my life wouldn't be as nice as it would be now.

"First, what do you know about the situation?" Jeff said between yawns. Usually after school he would take a nap on the couch, but with Polly here, he couldn't.

"Um..some guy named Lance wants to kill me for something I didn't do, he almost got me when I fell for..the trick earlier..and I'm no use to you guys because I don't know how to defend myself." she sighed. I saw Will looking at her for a moment and looked up and down.

I knew what he was thinking though, if we could train Polly a few moves, she would be able to handle herself if one of Lance's buddies come get her. "We'll train you." Will's eyes flickered to mine for awhile, clearly surprised that I had said what he thought.

"Alright." she shifted uncomfotably in her seat. She obviously had more questions, maybe she didn't dare to ask it.

"You want to ask anything else?"

"I want to know, why does he want to kill us." then it hit me, I also didn't know why Lance wanted to kill Will. All eyes turned to Will who shifted uncomfortably. He had that guilty look, I recognized it because he stole my bag of chips and when I asked him about it, he had the same look as he had right now.

"Yeah Will, why does he want to kill you in the first place?" I raised an eyebrow while crossing my arms as I took a seat beside Polly.

"It's a long story."

"I have time."

"You don't really want to hear it-"

"Just tell us." Polly banged her hands on the coffee table in front of her which surprised everyone. Polly rarely loses her temper and honestly, it was the first time I seen her like this. Beads of sweats formed on her forehead as she tried to calm herself down. Looks like pressure got to her first.

"I'll tell all of you. But no one is allowed to say anything until I'm done. Just so we can avoid misunderstandings." Everyone nodded at this. It was better for the all of us if there wasn't any misunderstandings.

"Lance and I were close cousins. We spent our time together hanging out a lot. Then one night when we were supposed to get together and hang out, he brought a girl along. She was Lance's girlfriend. Then when she saw me, well you know what happened. When I said I wouldn't cheat with her on my best friend, she went insane and tried to kill Lance, but ended up killing Lance's dad, my uncle. Lance hated me because it's my fault his father is dead."

There was a silence, I didn't expect that to be the reason. I didn't know Lance lost two people. He must be hurt then, seeing so many people on Will's side. I wasn't saying that it was Will's fault or anything, but seeing Will having so many friends must have hurt Lance even more. Maybe that was the reason why he wanted to get rid of us too. But then again, it wasn't fair for Will to feel the same thing when it wasn't entirely his fault.

There was the sound of the door bell ringing.

"I'll get that." I said and passed by Will as I made my way to the door. I don't think I wanted to talk about Lance's story right then because it would give me mixed feelings. When I opened the door, no one was there. Instantly my attack mode was back and I was ready for anyone to jump in front of me.

But no one was there.

Only a letter was on the ground. I picked it up and examined it awhile. I unfold the letter and read it. The curvy writing was making it harder to read, but I managed anyways.

I see your boyfriend told you my pityful story. But I know all of you are going to be on his side no matter what I say. If you're thinking that's why I want to kill all four of you, then yes. You're correct. But as for you, Fleur my beautiful, I have other reasons to kill you. You might be thinking 'Why why?'. Well, I'm not telling you. My mother would. - L

"Fleur, are you alright there? It took you a long time to answer the door!" I heard Polly shouted. When I tried to answer, no words came out of me.
