Chapter 17
~Sileen~
“Have a nice day, sir!” I called out to the young man who just exited the place. My tone was sarcastic, that guy had treated my waitresses and waiters like dirt. He didn’t deserve any of our hospitality. I hope that guy never comes back, if he dared show his face in my beloved Starbucks ever again, I’ll be sure that he won’t get the nice treatment other customers receive from us.
All of a sudden, Hemi appeared beside me and tossed me the phone. “It’s Max.” Hemi knew Max was my friend, since Fleur and Max always came to Starbucks to get lunch. But that was before Fleur went to work for Will. So that meant I hadn’t have the chance to see either of them.
“Hey Max! What’s up?” I kept my voice cheerful and happy. Honestly, I was so irritated by that customer earlier that I even snapped at Hemi when he asked if I wanted to take a break.
“Sil, are you busy right now?”
I looked around my ‘second home’, there wasn’t much customers today and I have all of my workers in, so I guess I wasn’t busy.
“Nah. Why? Do you wanna hang out or something?”
“Sil, two words. Lance Cross.”
Without any hesitation, I said, “I’ll be right there.”
~Fleur~
“Are you okay, Fleur?” Sileen asked me through the phone. Will and I were riding in his car to Max’s family restaurant to figure things out. Then all of a sudden Sileen called me to ask if I was okay. Max must’ve called her to meet up with the rest of us at his family’s restaurant. Will looked at me with a worried look while driving, I gave him a smile and return my focus back on Sileen who was panicking more because I hadn’t answer her immediately.
“Sil, I’m okay.” A horrible feeling came to me and then I was suddenly worried about her safety. Surely Lance hadn’t come all this way to New York without any friends backing him up in case something went wrong with his plan. Whatever plan he had right now. “Sil, bring Hemi along. He’s welcome aboard to our group.” I told her and immediately hung up because we arrived Max’s family restaurant as soon as I finished my sentence.
Will took off his seat belt and got out from his car. I did the same and the both of us went inside through the back door. The familiar heat wave greeted me and I smiled wryly. I didn’t miss that part of my old work.
“How did you stand working here? It’s like an oven in here.” Will whispered to me and I shrugged.
“I got used to it.” I told him and went around to where Max and I usually hung out if the both of us were taking a short ten-minute break. It would be near Mr Brown’s office, there would be a small couch there where the both of us would sip on chocolate milkshake.
Sileen and Hemi were already waiting there with Max and Liv. “Hey Fleur!” Hemi waved at me and I nodded at him. Hemi recognized me because I always went to Starbucks with Max. Usually he would be unpacking boxes at the back but sometimes he would help Sileen out with ordering the customer’s food and drinks when Sileen didn’t have enough waiters or waitresses in for the day.
Polly and Ken were busy so they couldn’t make it, according to Liv.
“What’s going to happen to Mich?” Will asked everyone. All of us gave him apologetic looks, we didn’t know Mich’s situation and Will was more worried than the rest of us because Mich was his cousin. I squeezed his hand and gave him an assuring smile.
“How about we explain everything to Hemi first, then we’ll discuss.” Liv nodded at Hemi and before we could stop her, she’d start babbling about Lance and Avery, then about how Will and I got involved, and how the rest of them got involved. And she also mentioned about Will’s little engagement with Flower. But Flower seemed so nice, how could Avery just use her like that? That was just plain...mean.
“Oh. So now I’m involved too? Do they want me gone now too?” Hemi asked, trying his best not to show that he was scared. But I knew that deep down, he might be terrified. After all, it’s not every day you find out someone is trying to get rid of you. Sileen glanced at him and smiled.
“You don’t need to worry, they don’t know that you know so you wouldn’t need to worry about them trying to get you, kays?”
Hemi didn’t look too convinced but he nodded anyways. “Okay.” He muttered.
The whole room grew quiet when my phone vibrated on the table. All our eyes were on the white iPhone that had Mich’s name flashing on the screen. Will and I traded worried expressions before I answered my phone.
“Hello?” I asked, my voice was shaky.
“Hey Fleur!” Her voice was bright and cheerful so I was slightly confused. The call was on loud speaker so the others could hear it too. But either way, they remained silent in case Lance was listening to the conversation. Mich must’ve took my silence as confusion because she continued with that cheerful voice of her’s. “Listen, Lance and I are coming to Max’s right now. Looks like my brother has something to tell you guys.”
Then there was a scrambling sound and Lance’s voice came on. “Hey Fleur, sorry for the gun shot. I need to tell you all something. See you.” Then he hung up without another word. Will shot me a worried look before looking out the window, just in time to get a glance of Mich’s motorcycle parking at the back door of the restaurant. The engine died and the back door flung open, letting Mich and Lance in, both with wide grins on their faces.
“Why are you here?” I asked as soon as Lance stepped in.
“Fleur, calm down. He is here to explain-“ Mich placed a hand on my shoulder, trying to stop it from shaking in anger. How could Lance show up like he hadn’t done anything that ruined my life and stand there acting like we were never enemies. I cut Mich off but shrugging off her hand and glared at the both of them. Mich shut up and instantly anger was in her eyes.
“Fleur stop being such a jerk and listen to my brother!” Mich shouted at me and my shoulders stopped shaking as I stared at Mich. Did she just shouted at me? My eyes widened and I stared at her in shock.
“Very well, let’s listen to what Lance has to say.” Will glared at Lance with narrowed eyes. “But if whatever that comes out from your mouth makes no sense, get out of here.”
Lance didn’t say much but nodded. Once all of us calmed down and took our seats, Lance started. “First off, let’s make it clear that I don’t like any of you.”
I heard Will muttered something like ‘Obviously’ but I nudged him to be quiet as Lance continued, “I’m not on your side or anything but you should know that I have a plan to end all this charade.”
“And that would be?”
He gave a devilish smile. “Will must go on with the idea of the wedding. Let Avery think that everything would go as plan. Leave the rest to me.”
“And why should we trust you?”
“Because all of you don’t have a single plan.”
