I leap out of bed. Yes, today is the first day of school. I think to myself, I have to make a good impression. I pull on my favourite skinny jeans with a simple shirt. Once again I applied minimal makeup, I definetly don't want have a cake face. I brushed my hair into two french braids. Perfect, I looked good but not the overdone good.

"Cassie come eat your breakfast" I ran down the stairs. Vi was preparing scrambled eggs on toast with sausages. Yum!!! I licks my lips as I ate the greasy sausages and buttery eggs.

"You walking to school, girlie?"

"Yep, I have cricket trials on today okay. After school. I'll be late back."

"Rightio, have fun and make friends. Bowl straight." Vi smiles.

"Yeah bye."I give Vi a hug and kiss then pull on a pair of black converse. I grab my lunch, stuff it into my bag of books and take my sports bag. I shut the front door ready for school.

As I am about to cross the road a when a electric blue car stops in front of me."Hey, do you want a ride?" Ryan is sitting behind the wheel. I stand frozen with shock and fear.

"Uh no. I'm good. Walking is great exercise." Crap, what a dumb thing to say. But I couldn't get in a car. I just couldn't.

"In that case I'll walk to. Wait here." Ryan reverses and parks outside his house. "Let's go. How are you getting home? I have cricket trials on after school so....."

" You play cricket!?" I exclaim loudly

"Yeah. I love cricket. There are trials for the team on today."

"I love cricket too. Is there a girls team?" I ask excitedly.

"No. Just boys. Girls never play, but the competition is a mixed sport, so girls can play in the team. Are you going to try out?"

"Do you think I should? I probably don't have a chance. " I sigh.

"No way. Enter. You never know. You just might make it." Ryan encourages, flashing his million dollar smile with his perfect white teeth.

"Okay" We near the school.

Ryan asks" You ready? For school."

"Not exactly." I reply, I was nervous already.

"Let's go to the office. You'll need your locker number." As we enter the school. I can see it is humongous. The buildings are one story but spread out vastly. I don't know how I will find my way around here. When we get to the office I am given my homeroom and locker.

"My locker's right by yours and you are in the same homeroom as me."Ryan leads me over to his locker. " Yours is just three lockers down." I open my locker and pile my books in.

" Have you got double extension 1 maths?" I ask Ryan.

"Yes. Let's go wait by home room. "He replies.

"Ryan!!" It's two girls and a boy. They surround us.

"This is Cassie, guys. Cassie this is Lalia, Emily and Drake." Ryan introduces.

"Hi" I say shyly. I was nervous, I am not good at making friends. At my previous school, I was the kid who didn't have any friends and said almost nothing in class. But these guys made me feel like I fitted in. Once I got to first period I met my maths extension 1 teacher, Mr. Powell. He wasn't very controlling and just set us text book work so everyone just talked most of lesson while doing the work. We didn't even have a seating plan. I was sitting next to Ryan.

" So what do you think of the group?" Ryan asks me.

"They're really nice." Ryan frowns at a question in the  book.
