"Wake up! Wake up Cas!" Vi shakes me awake.
"Okay!Okay!" I say with a groggy voice.
"Come on, we have arrived, help me unpack the boxes."
I groan inwardly, "I made it. Uhh. Never again will I ride in a car" Stepping out of the Kombi van I looked at our new house. Two- storey and with bright yellow and green paint. This house looked identical to the other houses on the street.
"What do you think?" Vi asks enthusiastically.
"Great, I really like it. How far is it from school? I am walking remember. There is no way I am ever getting in a car again."
"It's a five minute drive, fifteen minute walk. I am going to start unpacking inside. Would you bring in the last few boxes? They are from your room."
"fineee"Vi heads inside as I turn to a pile of boxes labelled, with permanent marker, Cassie's Room. I begin with the smallest box, when I open it it contains books.
"Hello"I whip around the books fly out of the box and onto the kerb. A boy around my age is standing behind me. I bend down to retrieve the books.
"uhh...hi" I say, he bends down next to me and helps me. I can see his muscles ripping through his shirt, as I am staring at his toned arms I realise I have dropped my books back onto the ground. I suddenly realise I have been staring...a lot. He smirks at me, he knew I was checking him out.
" You must be new." he says staring at the moving van as he gives me the books in his hands. I try and look away from him to refrain from checking him out further. I can feel his eyes skimming my body from top to bottom and I feel terribly self-conscious.
"Yeah..... umm bye" I reply rudely and hurry away into the house. I'll collect the boxes later.
"There you are. Could you help me unpack the kitchen stuff?" Vi asks.
"uh.. yeah sure." My mind was still dwelling on the boy. A knock interrupts us. Vi hurries back down the corridor and yanks the door open. There standing behind her was the boy.
"Hello, can I help you?"Vi questions politely.
"Hi, I live next door. My family and I would like to invite you to dinner as our new neighbours." The boy replies.
"Oh how lovely, why thank you." Vi gushes.
"No problem and if you need any help at all moving boxes. Just ask. Is 6:30pm fine with you?"
"Yes that's fine." Vi shuts the door, "How nice, now I don't have to worry about dinner."
"Yeah, how great is that." I say sarcastically. I peered out of the window of the living room. The boy was walking across our front lawn. He scaled a oak tree in the corner of the yard and dropped over the fence onto another oak tree next door.
"I'm just going outside to collect the rest of my boxes, okay." I called to Vi who had gone back to the kitchen. I hurried outside and grabbed the last two boxes. As I rushed inside I realised I hadn't even explored the house. I dragged my boxes up the stairs at the end of the corridor. I reached the landing and found three ensuite bedrooms, a study with a mini library and a tv room.
Aunt Vi comes walking up the stairs, "oh, Cassie dear just choose one of the rooms okay, for your bedroom. The tv's rooms yours as well."I walk into the tv room. The paint looked fresh and the carpet was green. A tv was already set up on a wall. On the opposite side of the room was a door. I opened it, it went into one of bedrooms. I decided to settle on this bedroom with easy access to the tv room. Maybe moving wasn't too bad after all.
...
Done. Finally my room was complete, after four hours my room was starting to come together. My bookshelves were filled with classic literature, my walls were filled with posters, my study table was neatly arranged with my textbooks and stationery and my wardrobe was filled with my clothes. The only thing remaining was I hadn't made my bed. My stomach rumbled. Man was I hungry. The yoghurt cup I had in the morning was a distant memory.
"Cas, I am going to the shops, to buy a box of chocolates for the neighbours. Have a shower and get ready. I have left some food in the pantry." Vi called from downstairs. I heard the slam of the door and vroom of the car. I rushed downstairs for food. I opened the pantry.
Hmmm... fruit... no....nuts...no...crackers...no...cheese...no..chocolate breakfast biscuits.... Yes!
I ripped open a packet and divulged the biscuits. My stomach groaned happily with the chocolaty goodness. After I walked back upstairs I hurriedly made my bed and I looked at my phone for the time.
5:30pm. Better have a shower. After being in a car all day I needed a hot shower.
...
5:45pm
...
I am dressed in a green and white floral lacey knee high dress. As I apply minimal makeup I pull on some flat ballet flats and I am good to go.
I hear Vi opening the door. Perfect timing.
"Cassie, I'm home. Are you ready? I'll just change. Meet me outside in 10."
I walk out the front door and sit on the porch. Vi comes out and locks the door behind her, "Let's go."
OHHHH... ARE U EXCITED FOR THE DINNER?
