Kian's POV

Caspar and Gemma stared at me. "He's dead?" Gemma whispered.

"Yes." I looked down. "I had to go to the station before to get the news."

"Do we get to see him?" Maspar butted in, looking over.

"When they are done I think."

Melody's POV

There's no more waiting. Not much life though. We all sit around, go for short walks but none of the kids are allowed out of our sight. I haven't heard from Joe and Holly for so long now, since we came back from the wedding.

I found Maspar at the bottom of the stairs. "Hey."

"Hi. You alright?" I shook my head and he beckoned for me to come sit beside him. "What's wrong."

"I just can't believe he's gone." I whispered. Maspar looked at me. "He was five."

"I know. That kid was my life, my reason for living." Maspar sighed. "And dying."

"We have to promise each other something." Maspar looked at me.

"What?"

"We have to never ever leave each other."

Kian's POV

"Are you sure you can do this Kian?" Melody whispered, clutching my hand. I nodded. We were sitting in the room off the main police headquarters; me, Mel, Maspar, Macarius, the triplets, Caspar, the twins and Gemma.

"I'm sure. I have to see him."

"Lee?" The policeman came into the room. We all stood up; even if my name is different, and my family's, we are still this family. "You may come in now, he is ready."

We walked in and there was another policeman sitting in a chair in the corner. In the middle of the room was a table with supposedly Jacob on.

"I am sorry it took us this long to find him." The policeman beside the door said to us, looking at the other one in the corner. He stood up and went over to the table, pulling back the cloth to reveal Jacob's face.

"No, KIAN!" Melody yelled, trying to pull me back as I stepped forward.

"How dare you." I whispered, walking towards the man beside the door. He stood his ground, even though I was taller by a bit. My voice was quiet but deadly. "How dare you. These are his parents, brothers, sisters, niece and nephew and brother in law. How dare you tell me he was dead, tell these he was dead."

"Kian, stop." Caspar mumbled. "Don't do anything stupid, kid." I elbowed him in the arm.

"You don't know how long we searched, how long we waited." I growled, right next to the policeman now.

"Be careful young man." The policeman whispered. "I know this is a big shock, as it must be to everyone, but you must keep it cool. We will find him."

"YOU TOLD ME THAT TWO WEEKS AGO!" I yelled, lurching forwards and throwing my arms forward, fists clenched.

I felt my fist hit the man, heard the crack. I heard Mel's screams and the twins' cries as the other policeman grabbed my arms, dragging me backwards. Maspar shouting and reasoning.

"Kian Liams, you're under arrest for an attack on a policeman." I was shoved backwards towards the door.

I stared back at the table. They told me he was dead. He could be dead. But that boy was not Jacob. No, it was the boy I saw on the kids' first day at school, the one with the man. The small, terrified boy that screamed when I touched him. And I know where I knew him from. It wasn't Jacob dead at all. That little boy was Sammy.
