I woke up to a nudge at my side. I turned over and saw Liam standing over me, a small smile on his face.
"Sorry to wake you, but..." he stopped and scratched the back of his neck, "Maya wants pancakes and I don't know how to make that."
"That's ok, what time is it?" I asked, trying to look at the clock, but not seeing it.
"It's eleven, still about an hour before I have to leave." Liam sighed and I nodded. I sat up and stretched before climbing out of the warm bed and going over to the kitchen to get started on pancakes for all of us.
"So, have you thought about what to do with the money?" Liam asked from behind me as I mixed the batter.
I had completely forgot about the money that we got from the case. It was nice, but then again, I did have to go through a week of hell to get a hundred thousand dollars.
"Well, I was going to set some aside for us, but I wanted to open the diner again." I shrugged my shoulders.
"That's a great idea!" Liam smiled at me as I turned around to pour the batter onto the pan.
"Yeah, I mean so many people lost their job and I just wanted to help them. They helped me so much..." I stopped myself. I knew I shouldn't be talking about having a hard time with Maya because that was my own fault for running away.
"Yeah..." Liam looked down, and I just made the pancakes.
...
After I helped Liam pack the rest of his things, I took Maya onto my hip and walked down the hall to the elevator. As the doors opened in the lobby I saw men rush forward to the windows and flashes go off.
"Let's go to the back of the garage." Liam whispered to me, and I put Maya's head in my shoulder and followed Liam to the other end of the hotel to a back door.
As we walked to the garage, the short thirty foot walk was blocked by paparazzi surrounding us. There were at least twenty, and some fans pushing into us.
Liam put an arm behind me and an arm in front too keep the men with big cameras away from Maya and me.
"Liam!"
"Is that Emily?"
"Who's the kid?" all of them yelled at once, and it made my head hurt, but I kept trying to push through. We were almost at the door to the garage, but then even more people rushed around the corner and we were completely stuck in a corner.
"Guys! I have to get to my flight!" Liam yelled over everyone, but only the girls behind the paparazzi moved back a little. The men just pushed harder. I felt Maya's head start bopping around, and a small murmur come from her mouth.
She was crying. I looked down at her and tried calming her down, but to no avail. I pushed her hair back from her forehead and put her head back into my shoulder.
"There is a little girl here! Move aside!" Liam yelled again, and this time some of the men moved away, only leaving a couple taking pictures, but still not enough to block our way to the garage.
I rushed over to the door and into the garage. Once inside and away from all the flashes and yelling I stopped and looked down at Maya. Her face was wet with tears and she was shaking.
"Sweetie, it's ok. It's over." I kissed her forehead and she looked up at me, her cheeks wet with tears. I pulled her head back into my shoulder and continued walking to the car where Liam was already putting his suitcase into the trunk.
"I'm so sorry about all of that." Liam said as I walked past him on my way to the other side of the car.
"It's ok..." I mumbled, and wiped a tear away from my cheek before Liam could catch a glimpse.
I got into the back seat of the car and sat back, grabbing Maya's hand. I waited until Liam go into the front seat and started the car. The whole ride to the airport was quiet, and definitely not the good kind.
Every once in a while Liam would try to start a conversation, but I would just answer with one word answers and the conversation would die down.
While in the car Maya slowly fell asleep and I leaned over to the window, looking at the passing cars zoom past me.
I could still hear the fans and paparazzi yelling in my ears, and the flashing lights in my eyes. And if it spooked me that much, I couldn't even imagine what Maya went through.
This is exactly what I didn't want to happen to us. But I wouldn't change anything for the world. I know that Liam being here is the right thing and I'm really happy he's with us now..
"Hey Em, we're here." Liam turned around in his seat and I pushed away from the window and stretched my arms, leaning over to wake Maya up.
"Maya sweetie, wake up." I lightly nudged her and her eyes fluttered open, "Let's go say goodbye to daddy."
"Mhmm." She nodded, rubbing her eyes, and sitting up from her car seat after I unbuckled her. She climbed out and I picked her up as Liam got his luggage out of the car and made his way to the entrance of the airport.
Luckily there were only a couple paparazzi there so we got through much easier than we had just an hour ago back at the hotel.
We went into the airport and got into the line to get Liam's boarding pass. Once he got it we walked him over to the start of the line for security.
"Ok guys, so I guess this is goodbye for now." Liam turned to us and smiled. I nodded and walked into him, giving him a hug.
Once I pulled away Maya ran up to him and he picked her up, giving her a kiss on the cheek.
"Bye baby, I'll see you in a couple weeks." Liam brushed the hair out of her eyes and looked at her.
"But who's the king now?" she asked, and Liam and I started laughing.
"It's ok, the king is just going away for a little... journey." Liam replied to her.
"Ok, but come back daddy!" Maya said, leaning into Liam's arm again.
"Always." Liam gave her another kiss on the forehead and gave her to me, taking his suitcase with one hand and giving me another quick hug. He then waved to us and walked over to the security line.
