*Emily’s POV*

Have you ever been out in the sun, running around in the warm air, a nice breeze coming along every so often to make it comfortable? And then you walk into a room that’s freezing cold. You feel the cold air hit your bare skin and you instantly shiver at the contact?

That’s what I feel. Absolute coldness on my skin. And the worst part was that I was just out in the warm air, happy, and it was all taken away so quickly. I was just shoved into this freezing cold room with no warning.

“Emily.” Liam sat next to me, rubbing my back, but I barely felt it. I was only focused on my father, who had left on such a bad note. I just wanted him back, if only for a moment, to tell him that even though he put me through everything he had, I still forgave him. All I could think about was how his lonely, tortured spirit would be wondering all alone, thinking that I still hated him.

“Ms. Clarke, I’m going to need you to stand up. I can take you to a room to lie down, but I need to get you out of this hall.” The nurse started to lift me with Liam’s help, and I obliged.

The both of them helped me into a room and sat me down on the bed, expecting me to fall back on the pillow and yell or scream or something. But I just sat there, staring at the same light blue and light green tiles that were placed all over the hospital.

“I’ll get you some water.” The nurse smiled and left me with Liam. And as I looked over I also saw a little pigtail sticking out behind him, and a little brown eye coming into my focus.

“Can you take Maya to the toy room…” I whispered, afraid of how my voice would crack if I talked any louder.

“Of course…” I saw him pick Maya up and head toward the door, “I’ll be right back.”

After about a minute of sitting in the room by myself, the nurse came back in at the same time as Liam. She put down the water as Liam sat down next to me and then she left without a word.

“Emily.” Liam sighed and put his hand on my shoulder. Just the simple gesture lightened up my mood a little but it all went cold after a seconds.

“I’m sorry.” I cried and buried my face into his chest, feeling his heartbeat quicken as I fell into him.

“What do you have to be sorry for? If anything I should be sorry.” Liam adjusted his position so that I could take up more of the bed.

“I’m sorry that all of this had to happen. If I hadn’t been out that day then I wouldn’t have seen my father and then none of this would’ve been a problem.” I blurted out without thinking.

“But Emily, if you hadn’t seen your father then you wouldn’t have been able to reconnect with him and then you would’ve regretted it for the rest of your life.”

I didn’t respond, but I let the words resonate with me for a couple minutes as I lay there in Liam’s lap. He was right, I would’ve regretted not making things right with my dad, but I wouldn’t have felt this bad. I wouldn’t have made everything better just to have it taken away not even 24 hours later.

“Liam. I want to see him.” I look up at him and Liam look down.

“Emily I don’t know if that’s such a good…” he starts but I stop him.
