“I had a great time Liam. Thank you so much for taking us out.” I smiled to him outside of my apartment building.

We had been walking around the city with a half asleep Maya for almost four hours. I should be tired right now, but I’m too happy to care that my feet probably have blisters on them.

“So, I’ll come by tomorrow and we can go out.” Liam smiled to me, then looked at the sleeping Maya in my arms, “Maybe Bri can babysit.”

“Sure, I’d love to.” I smiled and leaned in for a hug. It was quite awkward, because Maya was in the middle, but a hug nonetheless. He waved to me and crossed the street, hailing a taxi to stop and pick him up.

I smiled to myself and walked into the “lobby” of my building. I slowly made my way to the elevator and up to my apartment.

Inside I found Bri, with many more boxes packed, sitting in front of the TV.

“Honey, I’m home!” I yelled. Bri stood up and walked over to me.

“So, how was your date?” she asked excitedly.

“It wasn’t a date, just a… friendly outing.” I said coming up with the right phrase. It wasn’t a date. Was it?

“Or it was a family day out?” she asked. I knew she wanted me to tell Liam that Maya was his, and trust me so did I, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.

“Bri…” I said quietly. She rolled her eyes and walked back to the bedroom to pack more.

I laid Maya down on the couch and covered her with her blankie, and then ran after Bri.

“Bri…” I started to say again.

“No Em, we have had this conversation way too many times. It is your decision, not mine, but I’m just telling you that you are not making the right decision right now. You’ve held onto it for this long, why not tell him now? Or are you going to spend the rest of your life in denial?”

“I know, it’s just…” I started to say, but then a tear slipped. Why was I crying?

“No Em, all you need right now is some tough love, and I’m here to give it to you. Tell Liam, or he’s going to find out another way.” She put her hands on her hips.

            “You wouldn’t…” I said.

“Em, you have to realize it’s for your own good.” She said. My jaw dropped, at which she panicked.
