*Liam's POV*
"So what book do you want to read?" I asked Maya after she sat down in her bed.
"I want Angelina Ballerina!" Maya cried out, bouncing on the bed. I went over to the bag and got out the book she requested, walking back and sitting down next to her.
"Ok, let's get started." I smiled down at her and turned to the first page of the book. As I started reading, Maya stopped me.
"No! You have to do like mommy!" she squealed. I sighed and started again, doing my best at what I thought a little girl mouse sounded like. After Maya didn't interrupt me again I knew I was doing it right.
As I went on reading the book I didn't even notice Maya lean over onto my shoulder and fall asleep. I gently put her head down onto the pillow and got up slowly, careful not to shake the bed too much.
I started walking out of the room when I turned around to look at Maya one more time. I turned off the light and walked back over to her, kneeling beside her bed.
"You can't hear me right now, and even if you do, you won't remember this, but I wanted to tell you I love you. I have only known you for a short while, and I have known you as my daughter for only a couple days, but I feel this connection to you." I started to say stroking her hair.
"And I want you to know that whatever happens with me and your mom, I will love you, and I will fight for you." I finished, kissing her on the cheek and walking out of the room.
"So..." Emily smiled to me as I walked into the living room, "how'd you do?"
"I think I did good." I smiled and sat down on the couch, leaving a little bit of space between me and Emily.
"Well I didn't hear any screaming so I think you did pretty well." She smiled and leaned back into the couch, turning on the TV and flipping through the channels.
She kept flipping through until she stopped on a movie. It was some random movie, whose name sounded like it would be some sappy chick flick.
"I love this movie." Emily smiled and pressed on it, turning it on to the middle of a scene where a girl was lying on her bed, crying over something, or more likely someone.
"Are you sure you want to watch this?" I asked, starting to laugh at the situation. I never remembered Emily as the girl who was into the sappy movies and the whole "happily ever after".
"Yeah..." she said, pulling her knees onto the couch and looking over at me.
"Ok..." I said, looking back to the TV. But after a couple minutes, I couldn't take it anymore.
"I'm going to go take a shower." I announced and got up, making my way over to the bathroom.
*Emily's POV*
Once Liam got up to take a shower I continued watching the movie until I got tired of it too. This wasn't my favorite movie, I have never even seen this movie. In fact, I hated sappy chick flicks and the whole idea of "happily ever after".
It was just so uncomfortable sitting there with Liam, even though it wasn't even a minute. I had to turn something on so that we wouldn't talk; I really needed to talk to him, but I really didn't want to.
About fifteen minutes later I heard the water shut off, and five minutes after that Liam came out in his pajamas, his hair still dripping.
"The movie finished already?" he asked, taking the towel from around his neck and running it though his hair.
"No, I just got tired of it." I sighed and sat up on the couch.
"I knew you hated sappy movies." Liam smiled and sat down next to me, but not close enough so that we were touching.
