It wasn't exactly the welcome I hoped for but it would do. Klaus spent the afternoon discussing ways in which Bonnie could bring Esther back. He seemed on edge, knowing Ester would come back, that it was her the last time who helped us. He has already called Elijah who has sent a few vampires to deal with Lucien. My head felt cloudy and I needed some air, I walked outside and sat on the stairs I once sat with Tyler on. Things were so different back then, I was almost a different person.
"Need some company?" Stephan asked and took a seat besides me.
"This may sound weird but you look strangely familiar."
"I'm Hayley," I held out my hand.
"Stephan." He shook it.
"Nice meeting you, Stephen."
"How far are you?" He asked motioning at the tiny bump that was my belly, it was barely visible when I wore loose clothes like today.
"A few mouths now."
"Stephan, Damon needs your help with Klaus," Elena said from behind us, she sat besides me as Stephen left, not without giving her a light kiss on the head first.
"Hi," she said with a smile, "I'm Elena."
"Hayley."
"What's it like?"
"What's what like?"
"Being pregnant, I'm sorry, you barely know me, it's just Stephan is a vampire and I'm human and I just think if it's possible for you and Klaus then, I don't know maybe Stephan and I can have a normal life after all."
"Elena, Klaus is a hybrid. That's the only reason I'm pregnant, you do know that right? And not just because he is a hybrid because he is the original hybrid."
"Yeah, I guess so." I put my hand on her shoulder to comfort her, maybe she could find a way to live a normal life with Stephan one day.
"I better get back," I told her, getting up took a little more effort than I'm used too. She helped me up and we walked back to the house.
"There you are, love," Klaus greeted me.
"I have been worried sick."
"I'm fine, Klaus," I told him, rolling my eyes. I don't blame him for being so protective, he watched both Hope and I die, I can't imagine the pain he went through.
"Tyler is coming with mother dearest, they will be here anytime now," he informed me, "And then Bonnie will channel Hope and I to bring her back." He added. He seemed worried.
"It's going to be fine," I told him, placing a hand lightly on his arm.
"I know." In truth I was a bit worried myself, I know it would take a lot of power to bring his mother back, part of me thought it was impossible.
"It's going to be done at my old house, so Bonnie can channel the place we conceived her as well, they have doubt that it will work."Tyler arrived hours later, where he and the rest of Bonnie's friends met us in our home. Klaus spent the afternoon running things through with her and making plans. Damon guarded her angrily, I found him with a bottle of whiskey, sulking. I had a bone to pick with him. I broke a chair leg and held the stake behind me. I entered the room and took a seat opposite him.
"What do you want wolf girl?"
"You tried to kill me."
"So?" I leaped out the chair, had him pinned to his chair and had a stake on his heart in minutes, he didn't except my attack so I had the advantage.
"I wouldn't try it again," I whispered in his ear, pushed the stake into his chest so it was just under his skin and walked away as he moaned in pain."Damon isn't too happy with you," Klaus smirked from the door way.
"You saw that?" I sat on my bed, laptop in hand.
"You truly are a fighter Little Wolf."
"I kinda have to be," he took a seat next to me, suddenly serious.
"Hayley, you do know I will always protect you, right?"
"Yeah, I know that you will always try but sometimes there are things even you can't control, Klaus."
His eyes were dull, scared.
"I'm so sorry," he whispered to me, tears started running down his face. I pulled him into a hug, holding him tight as he cried on my chest. I had never seen Klaus like this before, it wasn't a small tear, he was howling. All the emotions he had bottled in since her death he let out.
"Ssshhh, it's okay. She is okay now, I'm okay now," I petted him like a child. We stayed like that for a while, it seemed as if time itself had frozen. There is no loss like that of a child, Klaus and I knew that.
"It's time," Bonnie said from the room, looking embarrassed. Klaus moved away from me, quickly, wiping his face and became strong again. Brave again. Klaus again.
