I marched into the room, head high and ready to take a stand. The full moon beamed in the dark sky, moonlight spilled through the windows.
Inside, sat Klaus, Elijah and Jake. Rebekah had invited them.
"Okay, so I have decided..."
"Hayley, you can't just..." Klaus began.
"Klaus, let me finish!" I said firmly.
The sight of Jake was making my head swoop. Part of me wanted to run into his arms, although I am not in love with Jake, it doesn't mean I don't love him.
"So, the two of you remember everything, and that's why you know why I can't marry Jake," Jake's eyes looked hurt. I turned to him, "I'm sorry."
"It's okay," he gave me a sad smile. Klaus wore a smirk.
"Oh, whatever shall we do," Klaus mocked, placing his hand over his heart. I eyed him, warningly.
He tried not to smile, pulling his lips together.
"What does this mean Hayley?" Elijah asked, getting up as he unbuttoned a his suit. A gesture he has grown completely unaware of.
"What is means, Elijah, is that I have to marry Klaus in order to save the wolves. It just makes things less complicated," I sighed. I didn't have time to see Klaus's reaction. All I could see was the sorrow in Elijah's eyes. I did it to him again, I broke his heart. Only this time, it was worse.
"Hayley," he took my hand, rubbing small circles on it with his thumb. "I love you."
I caress his face. "I love you too."
His gaze becomes unbearable but I can't pull my eyes away.
It hurt me, I did love him, but after everything Klaus and I have been through after Elijah left...
It was just too much.
And Klaus was there for me, unlike Elijah who left. I told him I wouldn't hold a grudge but I did. He should have fought for me, he shouldn't have been the noble brother. Elijah left because Hope deserved a home and Klaus and I gave it to her, in the country, on a hillside not a mansion filled with fear. We gave her everything I promised, she even went to school. We were normal. Something I never thought we would see. As far as my math goes, the more Originals in the equation, the harder life gets. But they are my family and I love them. However, we can't stay. We can't all live together again. It needs to be visits and birthdays. It needs to be normal.
A phone rang, tearing my eyes away from Elijah's.
"Hello love," Klaus started with a smirk. Caroline. I rolled my eyes.
Her voice was frantic, pulling the smile of Klaus's face. His eyes darkened.
He throw the phone on the wall, it shattered.
"What is it?" Elijah asked.
"It's Esther, she woke and escaped."
