Chapter 26
Brady Breaks In
It was after midnight and the temple of the Dou-Jin was all quiet. The passages were faintly lit with low burning oil lamps that were turned down for the night. A ghostly silhouette moved from shadow to shadow under the cloak of darkness, it was Brady Tunage. Somehow he had broken through the Dou-Jin guards and even worse the Dou-Jin magical wardings.
Two other figures stood in a hall not far from where Brady was creeping. One was Williambur Galahad and the other Jayrrio Sullituvan a short slender man that taught mathematics in the school. Jayrrio had a full burnt orange beard and mustache that he kept well trimmed and the beard came to a point about three inches below his chin. His dark brown eyes were almost black glittering in the dim light.
Williambur's grey eyes scanned the area around the hall nervously as if he was expecting trouble, but he didn't see any at the moment.
"Evening brothers." Brady's deep voice came from the shadows making sure he didn't reveal himself. He glanced about again and saw that no one else was in the passage way that the trio was standing in before he's revealed himself.
"It's 'bout time yuh got 'ere." Williambur whispered with a bit of irritation in his deep plains dwarf drawling voice. "We've been waiten almost 'n hours for you."
"Did you have troubles with the wardings?" Jayrrio asked in his light airy valley elven voice.
"No my brothers." Brady said ignoring Williambur. "I would have been here sooner but the Mistress called and told me how the vote went. Stephanous will be coming for the orb."
"Yes." Williambur said. "He and the Dou-Jin escort will be leaving in the spring along with his pod."
"Six new Roda-Ki for us to train." Brady said with a bit of excitement. "This will be excellent news for our Lady of Darkness. She will be please at having more than just Stephanous to use as Roda-Ki.
"We couldn't break the warding on the Dragon's door so you'll have to leave your mark or a note for Stephanous rather than intimidating him." Jayrrio said in disappointment. "I'm sorry we failed you."
"I will find a way to get in past Mistress Holiday's wardings." Brady said in and cocky arrogant tone. "I haven't met a warding I couldn't break yet. How else would I have got the orb, the trident, or the dagger?"
"The Dragon's warding is simple enough. This is a school not the League of Magic." Brady scoffed at the ease of which the warding of the dorm would be broken by his mere parlor tricks.
"If you do break the warding be extremely careful." Jayrrio warned Brady. "Stephanous is extremely powerful. I haven't ever seen such power in a Dou-Jin."
"You mean in a Roda-Ki." Brady said overconfidently. "He will be mine this night and when his pod come looking for him I'll have them as well. Nobody is safe from me when I want someone. I let them catch me before so I could get to my brothers and break them out of prison. You saw how well the prison warding held me." He smirked in cockiness.
"One other thing." Williambur said enthusiastically. "We've had a boy in the room with Stephanous under our observation to become Roda-Ki. He has the perfect disposition for our needs. The Dou-Jin are so anxious to bolster their numbers that they have become sloppy and have overlooked crucial elements that make for a great Roda-Ki."
"Of course they have." Brady answered in an all-to-knowing tone. "They have been recruiting for us for years. They have at least a dozen or more in training right now for us at this moment in this facility alone. We couldn't ask for better teachers." Brady laughed lightly.
