Chapter 37
The Underworld
The group went for several miles searching for a town, village, or city. What they found was a metropolis of pipes and small buildings. It was where the entire country of Northern Tektara got the shipments of salts and some other spices, but mainly salt.
A young albino elf boy of fourteen came from a cave and introduced himself as Vlolzz to the group. He wore special sunglasses that covered his eyes completely giving him an odd look. "Hi I'm Vlolzz Darkhand." Vlolzz was. I will guide you in the underworld. You can't go on land past here because of giant scorpions and giant snakes, plus just the giants themselves to crush them with their huge clubs and axes. The albino elves were friends to the world of light. They kept the peace between the shadow elves and the world above.
The steps leading down were well crafted and were extremely wide as well. It was made for bringing pack animals down so the step were very long as well as wide. The party led the horses down the stone pathway that was lit with brilliant yellow spheres that were held in brackets upon the walls every twenty feet.
Vlolzz led them down miles of tunnels until they came to the underground city of Vorderchen'Strauss. The ceiling of the cave was so high up that the light globe lighting it appeared as stars in the heavens. Everything was made out of stone in the elven kingdom. The elves had carved everything out of the rocks right where they stood. It was hard to make a street perfectly straight but they did try their best.
There were over three hundred thousand albino elves that lived in the city and every one of them above the age of ten had a job to do. The youngest tended the vegetable gardens which consisted mainly of mushrooms and other edible funguses. They did have special magical lights that helped them grow regular vegetables and fruits as well.
A massive seventy foot tall wall surrounded the city and it was seventy feet thick as well. There was a clearing of nearly half a mile that surrounded the city walls as well. The party followed a well worn road that led up to the enormous city gates and entered the bustling city. There were albino elves everywhere and to the surprise of the party there were dwarves, gnomes, humans, zephers, elves, widgets, and halflings.
The city was loud and was like a carnival to Stephanous. There were street performers. Some juggling, playing instrument of various sorts, some doing street corner magic, and some doing acrobatics. Stephanous was taken in by the wondrous sites that the city presented to him. He had never been to a city, let alone and underground city
Lorianna had to drag Stephanous away from the street performers before he was lost to the city forever.
Vlolzz led them to a rather nice inn call the Dancing Mountain Giant which had a picture of a very large giant dancing among the trees in the forest. The party went in and made themselves at home at a table where they were served two mugs of ale for the adults and root beer for the younglings.
While the waitress was serving the drinks she slipped Michale a note under his drink. Michale didn't notice it right away, because he was too busy glancing down the young maidens blouse that left so much bosom hanging out that there was little left to the imagination.
When Michale did notice the note he read it and glanced about the inn looking for whomever may have wrote it.
"Read this." Michale told J. D..
