Chapter 15
The Trumpet Blasts
A tremendous trumpet blast rocked Theara.
An intense searing flash burned Stephanous's eyes and a thunderous blast deafened his ears and rocked his mind, body, and soul! The blinding white flash took the young boy's sight away for a few moments. As the purplish blue spots faded from his field of vision and the intense ringing in his ears subsided.
Huge massive insects that had bodies of giant cockroaches, but the flat head of a large ox head with mandibles. Its pincers cut people in half with as little effort as a pair of scissors through a blade of grass. A lengthy hollow tongue vacuumed the blood and gore after drenching the lifeless form with lime green mucus. The sucking sound of the creature was like a person finishing the last dregs of a soda through a straw.
The cockroaches blacked the land like a carpet of vile pestilence. They ate everything in their path no matter what creature it might be just to try and satisfy the insatiable desire for hunger.
Stephanous could see the huge flying ants most larger than men. The insects blackened the sky blotting out the sun and set upon people, vegetation, and livestock. The mandibles of the massive insects ripped and tore flesh and vegetation with as much severity as a malicious lawn mower over a lawn. The cruel pests devoured mankind, livestock, and their crops with ferocious abandon.
Strange enormous praying mantises flew through the air with the beating sounds of helicopter blades. The enormous insects landed and surveyed the area they were within. Each six legged insects spying their prey and grabbing full grown cattle and ripping the heads off them as if eating a huge sandwich. The giant insects continued to feed this way even though it coated them with the lifeless creatures gore. The giant mantises lifted smaller livestock into the air carrying them back to their hives where they feasted with abandon and supply nutrition for their mutated young. The praying mantises swiveled their enormous heads in an almost three hundred sixty degree direction to seek out and find their pray.
Great black beetles swooped in and picked up hefty herd animals and screaming frightened people with expert precision. As the insects grasped their targets they began feasting on their shrieking tormented prey not waiting to land and feed elsewhere unless they were taking their booty back to their hives to feed their hungering young. Thick sticky blood showered down from the sky upon the surface of Theara like a torrential tacky crimson rain storm. Plasma covered the ground nearly knee deep in places from the ominous onslaught.
Some of the beetles were ten times the size of a full grown Black Angus bull they crushed, severed, and consumed full grown fir trees nearly three to four hundred years of age like they were fresh blades of grass. Whole forests were strip harvested by the hard shelled creatures within less than a few hours time.
Locust with the volume of a covered wagons clenched smaller livestock like blood hawks hunting wild rabbits. Each shredding their food without mercy and devoured them in flight which only added to the carnage within the area. More blood showered down like a macabre down pour from a blackish gray vile sky. The blood hawk screeched out in victory when they caught their unsuspecting prey as if it were a victory cheer.
Mammoth ebony rhino beetles the size of Herefords bulls devoured carrion like a starving man at a banquet. With outer shell as hard as high grade tempered steel that deflected normal arrows and spears as if they were nothing more than toothpicks being cast at the plated armored war machines. The colossal insects ejected fireballs causing forests and cities to catch fires. The tar-like flaming spheres erupted from the creatures singular horns and exploded wherever they happened to strike. The sticky fireballs clung to anything they touched whether it was human or not. The blazes caused more death and carnage wherever the creatures advanced. The heat was so intense that the flames shattered stone and metal with brutal ungodly force.
