Chapter 22: Shy

Chapter 22

Peeta's P.O.V.

I've been talking a lot with Marvel about this.

He needs to talk to Clove before someone else does.

We all jump out of the car and Prim takes my hand. She's so cute. She's fourteen but she can behave like she's ten sometimes, in ways like this. When she gets scared.

"It's gonna turn out fine, I promise", I say to her and stroke her hair. Or one of her braids actually.

Katniss walks beside Prim and smiles at me.

I give her a questioningly look. But she just gives me a, I'll-tell-you-later look.

I smile and nod.

Glimmer opens the door and we hear talk and laughter and smell food coming from the kitchen.

Everyone walks into the kitchen and hear Katniss scream.

"Grandma! Grandpa! I've missed you sooo much!"

I smile to myself. Katniss really did miss them.

Prim just stops and that means I have to stop as well of course.

"Hey don't be scared Primmy", I say.

It's the first time I've called her Primmy, I don't think that anyone calls her that, everyone calls her either Primrose or Prim.

Prim just looks at me before she hugs me.

I get a feeling inside of me I've never ever felt before. What's that?

I feel the urge to protect. Scoop her up in my arms and keep my arms protectively around her.

"Come on sweetie", I say and she follows me.

She holds my hand and walks behind me, she walks on my heels.

I walk into the kitchen.

"Hello Peeta", Mr. Sanders says merrily when he sees me.

"Hi Mr. Sanders", I say.

"Katniss where is Primrose?" Mrs. Sanders asks.

"Oh she's right here behind my back", I say. "You see my hand behind my back? Yeah she's holding it. Sweetie, you don't have to be scared, this is your family".

Katniss who is sitting in her grandfathers lap, gives me another look, just as the one she gave me outside the house.

I'm gonna ask her later.

I turn around to Prim and sits down on my knees, facing her.

"Why are you so scared Primmy? You wanted to come here", I say. "It's nothing to be scared of, your grandfather and grandmother have longed to meet you sweetie".

She nods.

I smile and kisses her foreheads. She hugs me and I stand up.

She peeks out from behind my back. Scanning the room with her eyes. She sees Katniss in their grandfathers lap.

I think she thinks that it's nothing to be scared of, because she takes a step to the side and stands beside me.

Mrs. Sanders immediately starts to cry.

"Grandma what's wrong?" Marvel asks.

Now I realize that he uses a whole different voice while talking to his grandmother from when he's talking to us.

"She's just so much alike Mary and Anton", Mrs. Sanders cries. "I never thought I would meet her, I didn't even know she existed before Katniss told us".

I lead Prim up to her.

Prim gently puts a hand over her grandmothers hand.

"I'm here now and I do exist", she says looking deep into her grandmothers eyes.

"Yes you are sweetie", Mrs. Sanders says and Prim hugs her.

I smile at them.

I look at the others. Glimmer and Marvel holds Katniss both hands while the lean on her sides and they all three looks at Prim and their grandmother in awe.

I look at Annie and Finnick. Both of them looks at Prim and Mrs. Sanders with big smiles.

I'm really happy for Katniss and Prim. They really deserve this. To get to know their grandparents.

Right now, I know that nothing can ruin their happiness.
