Chapter 38: A lot of emotions

Chapter 38

Katniss P.O.V.

"Well..." The doctor starts and I prepare myself for the worst.

"Well what?" Peeta asks.

"I'm not gonna lie to you, it really didn't look good, mr Hawthorne hit his head pretty hard when he fell and then to be dehydrated and starved at the same time, don't really make the odds good for anyone", the doctor says and my heart sinks to my stomach. "If he had gotten in just a minute later he would be long gone, but we did manage to save him, he still have a bad headache and it's going to take time for him to get healthy again, but he did survive".

I sigh.

"C-can we s-see him?" Skeeter stutter.

"You can, but you have to use low voices, if you're loud it can cause a trauma inside his head and that is not good", the doctor says.

Okay. Low voices. Low voices.

The doctor show us to Gale's room. As we enter we see Gale lie in a bed. He turns he's head when he sees us and he smiles weakly.

"Peeta, Katniss you're back", he says hoarse.

We walk up to his bed. Skeeter stands behind me and Peeta.

"We are", Peeta says. "But we would never have left if we knew that..."

"Don't worry about it", Gale says. "I'm okay".

"No you're far from okay", Johanna says. "Only one high tone in any if our voices can cause you a mental illness".

"Yeah but only until I'm well again", Gale says. "But I'm okay".

"No you're not", Skeeter says from behind Peeta and I.

Gale can't see her because Peeta is bigger then her and pretty much covers her.

"S-Skeeter?" Gale asks chocked.

Peeta and I take a step back, revealing Skeeter.

Gale frown as he take a look at her. He's not used to see her all torn up. He don't know what she looks like after she's been crying, because he have never seen her cry.

Skeeter gives Savannah to Johanna, and then she takes one of Gale's big big hands in bit of hers.

"I can't even begin to explain how endlessly sorry I am Gale", she says.

Gale just looks at her. He looks sad, but I don't know what he's thinking right now.

"Gale please don't hate me, but I understand if you do", Skeeter continues. "I will explain everything later when you're healthy again, but the most important thing you really do have to know now is how much I love you and you can't think otherwise because it's true, it's so true and I love you so much".

Gale doesn't say anything for a while. He only lies there and looks at Skeeter.

Everyone sees how a smile very slowly sneaks up on his lips.

"Oh come here you", he whispers and pulls Skeeter carefully towards him and she puts his lips into his.

I feel silent tears start to flow down my eyes and my lean my head onto Peeta's shoulder. This is actually really beautiful if I should be completely honest. Really beautiful.

Skeeter was so afraid that she weren't going to be able to tell Gale how much she loves him, but someone must have heard her prayers because she got a second chance with Gale, and a second chance to tell him her true feelings for him.

And all the time we're here, my mind always manage to drift off and I tart to think how it would feel if Peeta's life was dangling on a thread between life and death. I would be dead before Peeta if that would ever happen, because Peeta is my everything. Peeta keeps my life on track, he's the one that keeps my nightmares away, he's my comfort, he's the light in the dark, he's everything. I don't work without Peeta. I just don't. Even the slightest thought of losing Peeta, can get me to break down in less then a second.

I take a deep breath and shake my head.

"What's wrong?" Peeta whispers in my ear, when he senses that everything isn't as it should be as his grip around me.

"We'll talk about it later", I whisper back, but I don't know if I'm gonna be able to talk about it. It's a way too sensitive subject to talk about for me.

He nods and hugs me tighter.

But suddenly we hear sobs from behind us. Peeta and I turn our heads and watch how Marvel and Cato stands there and cries.

I raise one eyebrow as I look at their remorseful faces.

I think Skeeter and Gale heard it as well.

"Guys don't cry", Gale says, as Skeeter backs a bit and straightens but with a tight grip on Gale's hand.

Cato and Marvel steps up and walks all the way up to Gale. They couldn't have a more remorseful facial expression, and I'm starting to feel a bit bad over the things I told Marvel in the waiting room a while ago.

"We almost killed you man, we're so sorry", Marvel says. "Although that can never take away what we did".

"Yeah, we thought that Skeeter needed us, but she really didn't because she's very strong", Cato says. "God we almost killed you dude, you're our beat friend, I don't get how we could do that".

"Never happened", Gale says.

I look at him. Is he serious? They almost killed him and he wants to pretend like nothing happened?

I don't think I've understood how big of an heart Gale really has. I mean I've seen him as a love fool, when he first fell in love with Skeeter, I've seen him as a good friend, as a player and as a good boyfriend to Skeeter. But I've never seen this big of an forgiving part if him before.

If Gale can forgive Marvel, then so can I right?

Cato and Marvel both give Gale a hug each and I can see I'm Gale's face that he have completely forgiven them.

I break away from Peeta and put a hand on Marvel's shoulder. He turns around and immediately wraps his arms around me.

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry for what I said Marvel, I really didn't mean it", I say between my tears. "I'm so sorry, I really didn't mean it, I'm not ashamed to have you as my cousin, I'm proud, I am and I love you so much, I'm so sorry".

I just feel like I'm filled with so much emotions right now. It has been a really stressful and intense day today and everything just comes out now.

"No don't say that, you were right", Marvel says.

I just keep on hugging him because I do feel ashamed over what I said. I mean he's my cousin, my family and my own flesh and blood, how could I say that to him?

After a while a nurse comes inside the room with Gale's whole family and tells us other to leave the room.

We all leave the room and head out of the hospital because Gale isn't going anywhere anytime soon. We'll come back tomorrow.

Oh god how tired I am.
