CHAPTER 17: TRAITOR

Master Adrian whipped Griffin’s wing.

Griffin let out a cold cry.

All the Demons around them cried with him.

“Master, no.” some of the Demons pleaded.

“Traitor,” Master Adrian said. “How could you?”

Griffin stood up, shaking. His wings lost a lot of feathers.

Paige grabbed his black hair and raised it. She kneeled beside him.

“Now you know what it feels. Every whip you get tonight, you deserve.” Paige whispered.

Griffin sniffed.

“Why?!” Master Adrian raised his voice.

“Answer daddy,” Paige said. “Traitor.”

“She looked me in the eye,” Griffin said.

“That doesn’t mean you hid her from u–” Paige began.

Master shot flames on Paige. “Paige, daughter…no.”

Paige stepped behind with the rest of the Demons.

Master Adrian turned to Griffin, “Why did you do that?”

“She–” Griffin began. “She looked at me in the eye while we were at the Great Hall. Her blue eyes dazzled me. I caught one glimpse at her and I felt like I needed to take her. I wanted to turn her into a Demon but she’s too pure.”

Master Adrian raised his eyebrows. “Is this love, Griffin?”

“No,” Griffin said.

“Hmmm,” the Master said. “Very well then. We attack tomorrow.”

“What?” Griffin asked.

He tried to open his wings and let go of the chains but there was no use. It was too tight.

“Master,” Maya said. “Do you want me to hold Griffin down?”

“No. Let him be.” The Master said.

“Let him go!” Hannia cried.

Griffin gave her a look and so did the rest of the Demons.

Hannia squeezed her lips together.

Griffin closed his eyes and kneeled. He shut his mind and tried to focus and started to set his body on fire. He felt the chains grew hotter and then the scars on the back of his neck opened and molten lava flowed through it. Melting the chains.

“NO!” Master Adrian said, “Someone grab him.”

Griffin let out a big scream and opened his wings. His black wings had a lot of scars from The Master’s whips.

The Demons gasped.

“Griffin! Stand down. Fold your wings together,” Master ordered. “I don’t want to hurt you.”

“Then don’t.” Griffin said. “Don’t attack the angels.”

“You know I can’t do that,” the Master said.

“Well if you won’t do it. I will. I will go to the heavens.”

“You’re not allowed there. You can’t pass their gates without me.”

“I will try.”

Griffin soared above.

“Griffin, NO!” Adrian yelled. “Someone! Take him out.”

Paige raised her arms and blasted fire but Griffin blocked it with his wing.

She gasped.

His wings turned to ice.

Icicles formed on the edges of his wings.

“Griffin! Come back!” the Master ordered.

Griffin shook his head and left the Underworld.

I’m sorry,” he thought to himself.
