CHAPTER 18: THE RETURN OF THE LOST ANGEL

“I DON’T CARE! SEARCH EVERY CASTLE!” yelled Jess.

Jess dropped. She was crying, “Or The King will kill me.”

Kelsey stroked her hair, “We’ll find her.”

Jess cried. Glitter came out of her eyes.

“Jess! Kelsey!” Cinthya said screaming.

“Why? What is it?” Kelsey asked.

“Look, Cinthya…now isn’t a good time. I have to find her.” Jess said.

“But she came home,” a voice from behind Cinthya said.

“Hannah!” Jess yelled. “What are you doing here? You’re supposed to be guarding the gates!”

“Lexi’s here,” Hannah began. “She’s here.”

“What?” Kelsey and Jess said, confused.

Hannah opened her wings and Lexi came out of it.

“Lexi!”

Jess and Kelsey ran towards her, “Are you OK?”

“Wh-what are you wearing?” Kelsey stepped back at the sight of her black dress.

“I’ll explain later,” said Lexi. “I’m fine. Trust me. I have to talk to the Queen.”

“Let’s get you fixed up first,” Cinthya said.

Jess touched Lexi’s wings. Lexi let out a faint cry.

“Lexi…your feathers.” Jess said.

Jess stared at the tips of Lexi’s wings.

Her lower feathers sort of…burned.

Lexi took Jess’ hands away from her feathers. “It’s nothing,” she began. “Just a little burn.”

“Yeah, some Demon almost got her. I was quick enough to close to gates.” Hannah explained. “The Demon–”

“Needa.” Lexi interrupted.

“What?” Hannah asked.

“That Demon’s named is Needa.” Lexi clarified.

“Oh,” Hannah said. “Well, her wings got cut off by the gates when I closed it.”

“Hannah! That’s not nice.” Kelsey said.

“It was an accident!” Hannah explained, “She was too close.”

“Where is she now?” Cinthya asked.

Hannah looked down, “She’s…gone.”

“No. Demons are immortal. They’re not like us.” Jess began.

Lexi gasped.
