Shawn

It was dark, the streetlights lit up small circles at equal intervals but the in between was dark. I never really payed attention to the scenery passing as I drove, which is good I guess but I couldn't keep my eyes on the road.

A small huddle, maybe about four or five, caught my immediate attention. Half of he huddle in the light the other half in the dark. I furrowed and pulled over my car. A small figure curled on the floor as kicks were hurling towards their stomach and punches were flying towards their head. I jumped out and rushed over for a closer look.

A bunch of kids beating up another kid, almost lifeless on the ground.

"Hey!" I boomed. "Why don't you pick on someone your own size? Me, perhaps?" They all turned around simultaneously, their eyes wide in fear. They nodded their head before darting away. "Don't let me catch you again, you're lucky I didn't call the cops" I shouted after them.

I headed over to the boy on the ground and crouched over to him.  He was shaking. I lifted his arm placing it over my shoulder before pulling him to his feet. He stumbled slightly and he was unable to stand straight.  Blood was oozing out of his lip and his eye was swelling.

"Come on, little man, I got you" he struggled to walk over but with my support we got to my car. He slipped into the passenger side and I handed him a bottle of water from the backseat. "Where do you live?"

"125 Adelaide Street" the sound of the radio was the only sound until he spoke back up again "God! My sister is going to be so worried" he sighed.

"Don't worry, she'll be glad your safe" he nodded.

"I guess"

The door swung open and a frantic, (y/h/c) girl was stood wet cheeked and awfully flushed. Her eyes widened as she saw him and she grabbed the boy pulling him tightly to her chest.

"Fuck! Lewis, what happened? I was so worried." She cried.

"I'm sorry, y/n" he mumbled.

"It's okay, don't worry." She kept herself attached to him for a while and nuzzled her face into the top of his head. She glanced up at me, her eyes were glistening with tears and her nose was red. She sent me a small smile as she wiped her eyes with the palms of her hands. I returned the smile. "Come on, let's get you cleaned up and then I'll run you a bath." She said to Lewis. Dried blood was splattered over his face and he nodded slowly. He ran off towards the stairs.

She figured with her hands and bite her lip, sniffling occasionally.

"A-are you okay?" I asked, unsure of whether to ask it or not. She obviously wasn't but I wanted to show her I cared about her feelings. She shook her head.

"No" she closed her eyes and another tear dropped and splattered on to the floor. I placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Don't cry. Here have a tissue" I handed her a Kleenex from my pocket and she wiped her tears. "He's okay isn't he?" She nodded. "Don't worry, it's just a few scratches and bruises they clear within a week or so. I was in plenty of fights when I was his age, don't fret" She relaxed a little.

I knew it wasn't a little fight, her brother was being bullied but I didn't want her to be even more upset, not when she had such a beautiful face. Is that wrong?

"I better go see if he's okay, fix him up a little" I nodded.

"I'll leave you to it." I said swiftly turning on my heels and shoving my hands in my pockets. I sent her an apologetic smile from over my shoulder and bounced down the steps from her house.

"Wait!" She hollered. "Stay a while, please" she mumbled. I nodded before jumping up the stairs and she let me in. With a smile, I took a seat on the couch and she closed the door. "Make yourself at home, I won't be long. Gotta check up on him." I nodded and she left. My eyes followed her up the stairs and my gaze wandered around the room.

Shortly, she came running back down the stairs and into the lounge. She sent me a smile and her face was brighter and a lot fresher than it was before. She sat next to me and intertwined her fingers together.

"Thank you so much. God knows what would've happened if you wouldn't have helped him." She said as she wrapped her arms around me unexpectedly. It took a second for me to respond but my arms eventually slipped around her petite waist.

"Don't worry about it, really. It was the decent thing for anybody to do" she pulled away and bit her lip. "I'm Shawn, by the way" I said as I put my hand out towards her.

"y/n" she said said she took my hand in her softer one and shook it. It was silent for a while until I spoke up.

"Where are you're parents?" I asked. Her house was huge and expensive looking but there was no way she could afford this place unless she had a really good paying job.

"Oh, them, they're asshole" she spat. "They live in New York but they bought me and my brother a house here. I mean, what kind of parents move away from their children permanently for work?" I shrugged unsure of how to answer. "Sorry, they just wind me up a bit"

"Don't worry about, it was my fault" she nodded. I was about to start small talk with her until my phone started to blare from my back pocket. Aaliyah. I excuses myself and answered the phone.

"Where are you?" She shouted. "I'm hungry."

"I'll be home soon, I'm busy. I have to go. Bye"

"Shaw-" I hung up.

I head back to where y/n was sitting and I rubbed my hands on my jeans.

"I'm sorry, I have to go. That was my little sister and she's hungry." She chuckled.

"You gotta feed us girls as soon as when wee hungry otherwise we get cranky." I nodded.

"Tell me about it." She sent me another one of her gleaming smiles and she walked me to the door. I looked at her one more time and she was looking back at me. "Can I call you?" I asked.

At first, she looked taken back but her expression quickly changed and her cheeks started to turn a light rosie colour. She nodded and handed me her phone. I handed it back and she hugged me again.

"Thank you" she pressed a kiss on my cheek and this time it was me blushing. She let out a giggle and I retreated to my car sending her a small wave before climbing in and driving to get Aaliyah some pizza with a stupid smile on my face.
