Flustered was not even an accurate word to describe my mood, I blew a stray piece of my red hair from my face and continued to root through my locker. I have it, I have it. I spoke to myself as I continued to look for my Biology text book.

Today was not my day. Firstly, I was late to school, then, I got a 69 on my American History paper and finally, I can't find any of my damn books.

I huffed exhaustedly and slammed my locker shut before leaning my back against it. I pulled out my phone and started to starting to write a text to my best friend asking her to cover for me when the chime of the school's intercom interrupted my train of thoughts.

"Can Maryann, please make her way to the main office. I repeat, can Maryann make her way to the main office, thank you." As far as I was concerned I was the only Maryann in school so I rolled my eyes and shoved my phone back into my pocket before picking up my backpack from the floor and trekking to the main office.

"Maryann, hi." Linda greeted, the receptionist who knew just about everything about everyone. "This is Shawn, he just transferred from Canada and Principle Madden was wondering if you could spend the first week or so showing him around."

I looked over to the brunette boy who was standing besides me. He was over six foot tall, which was kind of intimidating, brown hair and eyes to match. His features were soft but were opposed by a sharp jawline. He sent my a small smile causing a scar on his cheek to become more apparent. He was cute and definitely my type. I smiled back at him and watched as he fiddled with the straps of his back pack.

"Hi" he mumbled.

"Hi" I repeated and he let out a short laugh. "Um, what's you're first period?" I stuttered.

"My first what?"

"Period, like, lesson."

"Oh" he chuckled. "We call them lessons in Canada (I don't know if that's true but it's whatever) but I guess I'll have to start saying periods."

"No, it's kinda cute. Makes more sense anyway. I mean- we are being taught a lesson we're not getting a period- um, you know what I mean? I'm just gonna stop talking now." The heat flushed my face as I started to blush and I dropped my head on embarrassment.

"My first period is Chemistry with Mr Hughes." He said as he read his timetable aloud.

"Ah, I have that lesson too" I laughed and he smiled at me again. "That means we will have all our science lessons together."

"I see what you did there" he chuckled and I sent him a wink.

I was soon beginning to become comfortable around Shawn, considering I had only known him for about 10 minutes and I am the most socially awkward person you will probably ever meet.

"Yeah" I tucked a piece of stray hair behind my ear. "We should go, Hughes get annoyed if you're even a millisecond late for his class."

"Okay, thanks for the heads up."

"You're welcome." I mumbled and pulled at the straps of my bag.

We wandered through the science wing and I pointed out keys area to Shawn such as corridors to avoid, corridors which are important, people to avoid, cliques to avoid and basically the do's and don't's of the school.

I chewed on the end of my pen as I unconsciously looked at the notes in the board. It was Friday, 3:13pm which meant it was 2 minutes until the final bell of the week rang.

A small tap on my shoulder and the whisper of my name caused my body to twist and look at Shawn who was sat behind me.

"Hey." He whispered and I smiled.

"Hi, couldn't you have waited the extra two minutes to talk to me" I chuckled.

"No, cause I might have missed you. Is we you rave out the door every afternoon." he chuckled.

"Okay, fair enough." I shrugged. "So, anyway, what was it you needed?" I asked politely.

"I was wondering if maybe, you would like to show me the best places to eat and hang out." he paused. "since you done such a good job at showing me around the school" he smirked.

"Is this you asking me on a date, Mendes?" I challenged and his cheeks flushed red.

"If that's what you want to call it, then yes." I chuckled slightly.

"Sure, why not?!" He flashed me a smile and the final bell went off. I started to stuff my belongings into the bag before walking next to Shawn as we left to go to his Jeep.
