I placed my items at the bottom of the conveyor belt and took my wallet out of my pocket. The old lady in front of me was counting out her change on her hand and the cashier was becoming awfully agitated with her.

"I'm sorry. You don't have enough to pay for your items" she stated as she rolled her eyes.

"B-but, my purse, I can't find my purse. I had it before and n-now its gone." She panicked as she rooted through her bag.

"Well, I'm sorry. There's nothing I can do. Can you move along so I can serve my next customer?" She said as she smiled back at me but I just scowled at her.

I saw my Grandma in the old lady. Someone caring, sweet, loving and it would break my heart if somebody spoke to my her like that.

"Here, let me pay." I said as I stepped forward and pulled out a $20 bill.

"Oh, no, non, sweetie. My granddaughter is only around the corner. She'll have money."

"No! It's fine." I insisted. She smiled at me sympathetically as I handed the note over to the cashier. She pulled out the change and handed it to me which I just added to the cash which i needed to pay for my items. I placed my stuff into my backpack and picked up the carrier bag for her. "So you're granddaughter?" I asked sparking conversation as I walked alongside her out of the shop.

"Oh, yes-"

"Grandma!" A young girl came bouncing around the corner as he pulled her grandmother into her embrace. "Oh my goodness, you scared me- hi" she blushed once she saw me. She pulled away from the embrace and knitted her hands together.

My eyes were glued to her features. She was so gorgeous. Beautiful even. Her cheeks were rosy and she had faint freckles dotted over the bridge of her nose and her cheeks. Her hair stopped just below her shoulder blades and her natural makeup look accentuated her bright eyes.

"Grandma, who's this?" She asked quietly, almost a whisper.

"Oh, this dashing young boy!" he grandmother exclaimed causing me to chuckle slightly. "He paid for my groceries because that cow in there-"

"Grandma!" she scolded holding back a chuckle. Her grandmother shrugged and she turned her attention to me. "Thank you so much" she beamed. "How much-"

"Don't worry about it."

"No, no, please. Take it" she said as she shoved a $20 bill at me.

"No" I chuckled.

"No, please" she laughed.

"How about- where's your grandmother gone?" I asked. Her eyes widened as she looked around.

"I'll find her in a minute. What were you saying?"

"How about you let me take you out as a payment" I asked as a surge of confidence wove through my body.

"Sure!" she beamed as she blushed.

"Okay. 8:00pm Saturday night?" I asked and she nodded as she pulled out her phone.

"Yup" she said popping the p. "Here, put your number in my phone and I'll text you my address." I nodded before exchanging phones and punching in my number before handing it back. "I better go and find my Gran. It was lovely meeting you, see you Saturday!" she waved as she quickly ran off and I looked down at my contacts.

"y/n" I smiled.
