Strolling through the city centre, there was hardly anybody around. I always hated finishing work so late, it gave me the chills. I pulled out my phone and dialled my mother's number but it rang through to voicemail.

I huffed shoving it back into my bag. A figure was heading towards me which seemed a little shady but it was late at night so I wasn't surprised. I watched as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, metallic object; a gun.

My eyes widened and the sound of a bullet being fired echoed through the not streets yet it wasn't me who fell to the floor, screaming and crying in agony.

I dropped to my knees and fell limp besides the body on the floor. I shook in terror as I watched the gunman run.

A boy was lying, gasping for breath at my knees. I swiftly took of my jacket and covered him, trembling as I did so. I shouted for help but no one.

Reaching into purse I retrieved my phone once again and dialled 911. The operator stayed on the phone which was now on the ground next to me helping me through the situation. I shook and sobbed as I pulled his cold body close to me.

"Come on stay awake!" I shouted repeatedly whilst slapping his cheek to keep him alert. He didn't say much but he just stared at me. "Please" I cried. He slowly reached his hand to mine and intertwined our fingers.

The blaring of sirens rippled through the chilling air and we were soon approached by paramedics. They wrapped up his body and placed him on a stretcher and a blanket was placed around my shoulders as I was also escorted into the ambulance.

"Do you know him?" The paramedic asked whilst receiving a clip board. I shook, no. I was in shock. It had settled in and in a matter of minutes I had switched mindsets from hysterical to frozen, still and almost as lifeless as the boy who was laying on the stretcher besides me.
