"Hey," Az grinned softly as her fiancée came through the door. Steph drops his bag down on the ground and sighed loudly. "I saw the game."
She wrapped her arms around Steph only to have him push her away slightly. "I'm not in the mood."
"Is everything okay?" She raised both her eyebrows as she reached back to close the door. She jogged to catch up with the point guard, only to have him turn and swat her away again. "Hey, what's going on?"
"You watched the game," Steph muttered angrily. "You should know what's going on."
Az stayed silent for a moment, still unsure of what he was talking about. Steph whirled around again, "I was 0 for 10 on the field today!"
She sighed out an 'oh', breathing heavily for a few moments. She didn't know how to response. If she did, she would probably react the way Steph wasn't expecting.
"I thought it was okay," Az whispered slowly, afraid that she might say the wrong thing to him. "I mean, it's just one bad game, baby. You'll get back on track the next game."
"My bad games aren't as bad as tonight!" He snapped, slamming his palm down onto the wall. "We lost to the Lakers, Az! Kobe Bryant isn't even playing anymore!"
"Has it ever occurred to you that maybe Luke's just doing a great job coaching them?" Az didn't know what Steph wanted her to say.
If she said the wrong thing, everything could come crashing down and that was the last thing she wanted at this time. "Come on, don't be like this."
She tries to place a comforting hand on his shoulder but he shrugs her off again, making his way deeper into the house. "Nothing's okay. My career is over!"
Az took a step back, eyebrows raised in disbelief. She looked around the room and silently wished that someone was there to hear him say these words. "Okay, now you're just overreacting."
"I'm not overreacting!" Steph yelled loudly, whirling around to face her. He's breathing heavily and his eyes are red — anger obviously getting the best of him. "I'm known as the best shooter in the league and I shot nothing tonight!"
"You said your career was over months ago too!" Az yelled back, but it wasn't with such feelings like Steph had. She was just trying to prove a point. "Your career didn't end when you lost the Finals, and it won't end now just because you missed a couple shots!"
Steph's jaw dropped in disbelief. "Don't you dare bring up the Finals."
Az grinned bitterly and folded her arms over her chest, "why? Are you finally realizing that this isn't as bad as that?"
"It's just as bad!" Steph frowned, stomping his foot on the ground. "Perhaps even worse!"
Az didn't want to bring up bad memories, but she probably had to. It was to remind Steph that missing shots on the court wouldn't be so bad. "What could possibly be worse than losing a 3-1 lead?"
Steph gaped wordlessly at his girlfriend, unsure of how to respond. She'd always brought the loss as a joke but it wasn't the right time for her to do that.
Maybe she was trying to prove something to Steph or maybe she was trying to be funny. Either way, he didn't find it amusing. "I told you not to–"
In a swift move, Az grabbed his face and pressed a chaste kiss to his lips. He felt his anger slowly fade away and he melted into her warm hands.
"You're Stephen Curry as far as I'm concerned," Az grinned slightly, "you're the best shooter in the league and you make the most ridiculous shots ever."
Steph's eyes wandered around the room before it met hers again. "I know that."
"And if you ever forget that, I'll be here to remind you that you're Stephen Curry," she pressed another kiss to the corner of his mouth, "and that I love you even if you lose the Finals, or make none of your shots.
"I've got you no matter what, remember? You've got me."
Steph stayed quiet for what seemed like the longest time that night. They stayed in their position — Steph's hands resting on her waist, Az's hands holding his face and the couple looking into each other's eyes, obviously in love.
"Thank you," he finally muttered, leaning forward to rest his forehead against hers. "I don't know what I'd do without you. I love you."
She grinned, "I don't know what you'd do without me too." He gave her a look, making her giggle and shrug. "I'm kidding. I love you too."
