Chapter 9

Clarke's pov
Anya and I continue through the woods.
"Quiet. You can't even walk in the woods." Anya said
"If I'm such a burden, then cut me loose." I said
"Heavy footfalls, broken branches. You even smell like them." Anya said
We stop before a puddle.
"Down. Not to drink." Anya said
"Then why stop? We should be running." I said
"You reek. Cover yourself in it." Anya said

Giselle's pov
Sterling is climbing down the cliff to save Mel.
"I'm almost there! Once I have her, pull us up!" Sterling yelled
"Okay" I yelled back.
"Well, I'd say he's heard one too many of your motivational speeches." Murphy said to Bellamy
"Shut up, Murphy." Bellamy said
"Give me your hand. It's ok, Mel. Ok. I got you. All right. Ok. I got you... All righty. I got you, ok? Give me your hand. You'll be all right. I got you." Sterling said
Sterlings  rope breaks and he falls to his death. I scream. Mel still clings onto the tree branch on the side of the cliff.
"Sterling! Sterling! Mel! Mel, hold on. Focus on me. You can do this." Bellamy said
"Oh, no!" Mel said
"Yes, you can. You're strong." Bellamy said
"I'm not strong! Stubborn, maybe." Mel said
"So be stubborn a little longer. I'm not gonna let you die, you hear me? Ok." I said
"We're out of rope." Finn said
"I don't care" I snapped at him, quickly getting sick of his bad attitude.
"So we make a new one." Bellamy said rubbing a hand up and down my back in comfort, in leaned into him.
"If anything happens to our friends when we could..." Finn started to say before Bellamy cut him off.
"We don't know if we could save our friends. For all we know, they may be dead already. We've all thought it. But what we do know is we could save this one girl." Bellamy said
"Sterling was one of us. She was his friend. I'm in." Monroe said
"How do we do it?" Murphy said
"We make new rope from the wreckage. Go find wires, seatbelts, anything. Come on. Come on." Bellamy said
"I hope you're right about this." Finn said
"So do I." Bellamy said

Ravens pov
I enter engineering
"What the hell are you doing in here, wrench monkey?" Wick says to me in a high pitched voice
"Helium, Wick? Really? Ark welders aren't toys." I said
"Come on, Reyes. You got to enjoy life." Wick said
"You enjoy enough for everybody. So, still dreaming up designs the rest of us will have to fix?" I said
"Hey, my designs are elegant." Wick said
"If only they were realistic. Well, it's been real, but I have a beacon to work on." I said
"In that case, welcome to my party. Schematics are over here on the bench." Wick said
"You already designed it" I said
"Yep... We're using parts we salvaged from the station's debris field." Wick said
"Obviously." I said
"Oh, also, I have a little something for you." Wick said He shows me a brace he made.
"What a piece of crap." I said
"You're welcome?" Wick said
"I can get around just fine. What you need to worry about is countering the mountain effect." I said
"That's your job." Wick said
"Damn engineers." I said
"Damn mechanics." Wick said

Clarkes pov
Anya and I are walking through the woods being pursued by the Mountain Men.
"How are they still following us? Because of you. Time to end this." Anya said
"Anya, I am stepping where you step. I'm covered in mud. We're not leaving a trail." I said
"They're following something." Anya said
"They're not following us. They're tracking us. Search yourself. If I'm right, it should feel like a... a small bump just under your skin. Oh. It's you. Ok, I could remove it, but you need to untie my hands. I just need something sharp and sterile." I said
Anya bites her arm and spits out the tracking chip.
"I will not go back there."Anya said

Giselle's pov
Murphy, Finn, Monroe and I are lowering Bellamy on a rope made of seatbelts.
"All right. Ease it out slowly. Just hang on. I'm almost there. It's ok. I got you. I got you. Just put your arms around me." Bellamy said
"I can't." Mel said
"Yes, you can. It's ok. This will hold. I'll get you up. I promise. Ok? Ok. Ok. I got her! Pull us up!" Bellamy said
"Don't you worry, Bellamy. I won't drop you." Murphy said
"Just pull, Murphy." Bellamy said

Ravens pov.
Wick and I are working on the beacon in engineering.
"Hey. I'm changing the tone frequency to 400 hertz." I said
"It'll increase the radiated modulation depth. Atmospheric noise will screw us." Wick said.
"So the signal's fainter. At least they'll know we're out here." I said
"What's wrong? The current is not getting high enough. We might as well be shouting into the wind." Wick said.
"We put an insulator between the mast and capacity top hat." I said
"Already tried that. Not working." Wick said
"Then you're doing it wrong." I said
"Raven." Wick said
"Don't worry. I'll fix it. I always do." I said
"Try my damn brace!" Wick said
"Your damn brace sucks!" I said
"Come on, Raven. Elbow grease ain't gonna fix this." Wick said
"What would you know about elbow grease?" I said. I try to climb the tower but I am unable to with my injured leg.
"Hey, come on. Let's go back to the work room. We'll think it through." Wick said

Giselle's pov
Murphy, Monroe, Finn and I are pulling up Bellamy and Mel.
"Pull, Murphy!" Finn say. The seatbelts snap, I gasp but Murphy grabs both ends holding them together.
"Come on! A little help!" Murphy said, I rush to help him.
"Oh, no! Pull! Pull!" Finn said
"We're trying" I said
"What the hell is happening up there?!" Bellamy asked as Arrows begin flying towards us
"Grounders! Cover!" Finn shouts. We all duck to the ground and try to pull Bellamy up without getting hit with an arrow.
"How many are there?" Bellamy asked
"We can't see 'em!" Monroe said.
"In the trees! In the trees! Aim for the trees!" Finn said An arrow hits Monroe in the leg.
"Aah! No, no, no!" Monroe says.
"We're gonna need to cut her loose." Murphy shouts down to Bellamy
"We can't do this." Bellamy said
"Bellamy, you got to cut her loose!" Murphy said
"No way!" Bellamy said.
"Cut her loose!" Murphy yells, then A foghorn is heard.
"Acid fog. Monroe, get back on the rope!" Finn says.
"Come on!" Murphy says as we all heave the rope back up. We successfully pull up Bellamy and Mel.
"Thank you. Thank you." Mel says once she's safe on the ground.
"We have to take cover from the fog." Finn said. I see Octavia runs towards us.
"Bellamy." Octavia said
"No, we don't." Bellamy said to Finn.
"She blew the horn." Murphy said
"Octavia." Bellamy says happily and hugs Octavia. Once they pull away I dive into her arms.
"Tavi" I say relieved She's alive and well.
"Hey Giselle" she says hugging me back
